t h e L y r e l e t t e r AlPhA chi omegA P.o. boX 93 ogAllAlA, ne 69153 Address service requested A s you studied Olive Burnett, Nellie Gamble, Estelle Leonard, Anna Allen, Bertha Deniston, Bessie Grooms, and Amy DuBois in your pledge manual, did you ever suspect that our one and only Amy was buried right here in our city? We could have been placing our beautiful red carnations on her grave these past 100 years. But we intend to make it right with our Amy and celebrate her life and dedication to our sorority. Please mark October 2-4 on your calendar and make your reservations to join us here in Lincoln for a marvelous party. We will make Amy proud! We will meet at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel on Friday, October 2, at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet event. A cash bar will be available and free hors d'oeuvres will be served until 8 p.m. National President Diane Blackwelder, immediate past President Marsha Grady, National ACW Archivist Vicky Harrison, and ACW history buff Marlene Kruelle will be joining us to meet you all. Brunch will be served at the chapter house on Saturday, October 3, at 10:30 a.m. The Xi undergraduates will be our hosts. House tours will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Diane will address us at the luncheon and Marlene will tell us all about Amy. She has been working on this history for some time. The actives will present a special musical tribute to our Amy—one of the pieces she presented at her recital at Doane College. Finally, Barb Robbie Elliott will introduce our 50- and 75-year members. Afterward, we will caravan to Wyuka following the luncheon to honor our dear founder and place carnations, dedicating a memorial vase. We also hope to offer some treasured ACW items for a silent auction. Since our national philanthropy is domestic violence awareness, we will be collecting items (women's undergarments, toiletries, cash, or gift cards from Target or Sam's) for the Lincoln Friendship Home. The Saturday evening banquet will be at the Cornhusker with cocktails from 5 to 6 p.m., a group photo at 6:15 p.m. on the stairs, and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Marsha will address us and Vicky will present the program about our other six founders. Registration for the weekend event is $75, payable to Xi Chapter House Corporation. Special room rates at the Cornhusker are $l09 for single occupancy. We are holding a block of rooms, available until September 11. You may call to reserve at (866) 706-7706. Sisters, this is huge. Don't miss the biggest party Alpha Chi Omega has ever had in Lincoln. Contact your pledge class and your sorority family so we can have a wonderful turnout. We have been working on this event since last convention when we learned Amy was here in Lincoln. See you in October! Loyally, Willie Shafer '53, lshafer@neb.rr.com Celebrate One of Alpha Chi Omega's Founders October 2-4 Amy Day: The Biggest Event of Xi Chapter The Lyre Letter: legacy edition Legacy. As an Alpha Chi Omega, this word means so many things. Naturally, it is the designation given to a sister, daughter, or granddaughter of a current member (lucky girl!). A quick Google search provides further definitions: • Something that has happened in the past that comes from someone in the past. • Something (such as property or money) that is received in honor, or memory, of someone. • See also: heritage, endowment, gift, birthright, effect, heirloom, bestowal, offering, present Have you ever thought about your own legacy within Xi Chapter? What are your fondest memories of your days in the house? How do you hope to keep your legacy alive for years to come? As you read through this Lyre Letter, I encourage you to think about all the ways that Alpha Chi has been there for you. How will you be there for Alpha Chi?
