8 EPTEMBER 2-8, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM On Thursday, Sept. 3, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will bring smooth jazz to the side of the Cape Fear River, as the Cape Fear Botanical Garden host it fall con- cert stories. This year is the fourth that CFBG has hosted the series and it is unique because all four concerts will feature the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. The theme of the series is Travel the USA. For each concert the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will take its inspiration from a different American style. This creates an incredible opportunity for the community to witness the versatile talent of the orchestra. Though there may be the same musi- cians on stage each night of the series, the concerts will have little in common. The American music genres have such unique sounds that it truly will be like traveling across the nation. Music encompasses a lot about an area. It ref lects history, culture and passions. Listening to these different styles of American music is like experiencing the lives of different people across the nation in a personal and meaningful way. The theme of the first Travel the USA concert is "Sounds of the French Quarter." New Orleans is famous for its street musicians or "buskers." They are a musical landmark and a must-see when visiting. These talented artists tap into the area's long traditions of jazz and blues to create an enthralling sound. No matter where you need to be, the tunes are too infectious to ignore. Much of the sound that comes from the French Quarter has a very present brass section capable of producing both sad and joyous tones. Whatever the song, the promise of the French Quarter is that it will be spirited and entertaining. The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will cap- ture the sound and the energy of the city and bring it to Fayetteville for a night. The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956. It provides numerous posi- tive services to the community. First, it pro- vides a platform for the talented musicians that reside in the area to share their knowl- edge, skill and passion for music. In addi- tion to the focus on music, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra also focuses intensely on community. Through its numerous out- reach programs it seeks to educate people of all ages about music in the region. Learning about music at any age is not only enjoyable, but has positive a impact on other areas of life. For students, it can help with academics. It helps with stress levels, inspires creativity and honestly, is just plain fun. General admission to the concert is $10. The first concert takes place on Sept. 3. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m., last- ing until 8 p.m. Sept 10, the theme is "Motown Sounds". Sept 24, the theme is "A Night on Broadway," and Oct. 1, the theme of the last concert is "Music of America".
