Health Dept. Baby Parenting Classes
The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will
be offering a series of free educational parenting classes starting
Aug. 11 for parents or any adults supervising children ages 0-18.
The classes will focus on positive
parenting behaviors and attitudes.
It can be stressful for a parent
when dealing with a child who
is upset or crying. The class is
designed to help parents maintain
a positive attitude and response to
their child or children in their care.
"This class will help parents learn
how to remain cool, calm and collected because if the parent is
angry and acts out, the child will respond by doing the same," said
Susan Dover, maternal and child health educator.
Each class in the three-part series is three hours. Pre-
registration is required and parents are asked to attend all three
classes in order to obtain a certificate of completion. Register
early, as class space is limited. For more information and to
register for classes, call 910- 433-3890. The Health Department is
located at 1235 Ramsey St.
The Cumberland County Sheriff 's Office unveiled a mobile jail
cell as part of the Sheriff 's Detention Prevention Program July 23.
The mobile jail cell was built in an enclosed trailer, which allows
it to be transported to a venue for display. The trailer is designed
to help educate the public on the look and feel of a real jail cell
without actually being incarcerated. The trailer will be used as a
detention prevention tool to keep youth out of trouble and out of
jail.
