C, inside the Bank of America bank building. The office for veterans services and the Tehama County Law Li- brary are both new to the build- ing. This is a great place to talk with veterans about any benefits they may not be aware of, said Veteran Service Officer Kelly Os- borne. There are about 5,788 veterans in the area who use the office's re- sources, Osborne said. DISTRICT ATTORNEY 10 arrested in welfare fraud sweep By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Several Red Bluff residents experienced a brief power outage shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday with reports received at the Daily News of businesses and residences in the southern part of town affected. The outage was caused by a breaker that did not operate cor- rectly inside the Cottonwood transmission substation, said Pa- cific Gas & Electric Co. spokes- man Paul Moreno in an email. That failure caused power to be lost at three Tehama County sub- stations — two in Red Bluff and one in Gerber. Initial estimates given out on the PG&E outage alert system were that power would be back on by 5:45 p.m., but all power was restored by 2:36 p.m. A total of 7,700 customers were without power and it wasn't just Red Bluff, Moreno said. Parts of the Gerber area were without power as well. Emergency personnel reported homes and businesses as far west as the Red Bluff Municipal Air- port had lost power. For information, including a map of outages, visit pge.com/ outages. To receive updates or report an outage, call the 24-hour Out- age Service Line at (800) 743- 5002. PG&E is investigating why the breaker did not operate, Moreno said. RED BLUFF Poweroutageaffects7,700 By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Competition starts today for Emilia Gray, reigning Teen Miss Tehama County, who is competing in Santa Clara for the title of California State Teen Ambassadress. "I'm excited for the state competition," Gray said. "It's been fun to be involved in the community and other counties through being Teen Miss Te- hama County. I'm more excited than nervous. Not just for the competition, but to meet the other girls that are competing. Whether I win or not, it's good experience. Even if I lose, it will help me with the Miss Tehama County competition." While Gray, the daughter of Gerry and Kristen Gray, doesn't know when she will compete, the Mercy High School sopho- more does intend to run for the Miss Tehama County title even- tually, she said. "When I was lit- tle, I would always see the com- petition at fair," Gray said. "I was always involved with 4-H at fair and thought it would be a fun way to help out the com- munity. It was even more fun than I thought it would be and it's another way to get involved in helping the community." Gray says she has enjoyed the opportunities, doors opened and traveling involved with being Teen Miss. Teen Miss Tehama County was Gray's first competition. She said it was an interesting experi- ence as she was also participat- ing in the fair with 4-H while participating in various fair ac- tivities. This often left her doing things like wearing her crown into the auction yard when it was time to show her rabbits, she said. Gray described the ex- perience of going from muddy boots and shavings to heels with a long dress dragging on the ground as hectic. She was completely surprised when she heard her name announced as the Teen Miss winner and didn't know how to react, but has en- joyed the entire experience, she said. Her favorite part is getting to be a role model for young girls and seeing their reactions to her. "When you walk by multiple little girls, you hear them whis- per 'look, it's a princess' and they look up to you," Gray said. "It makes you feel good about your- self. For me, that person I looked up to when I was younger was Megan Mandolfo." To follow Gray's journey at the competition, check out the Tehama County Youth Focus Facebook page.
