Thirteen Missouri Gamma undergraduates and
Casey Zimmerman '14 attended the Carlson
Leadership Academy in Oklahoma City.
For the second year in a row, the chapter raised
the most money for Out 'Til Midnight (previously
Up 'Til Dawn), which benefits St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital. The brothers of
MO Gamma are proud they were able to make a
difference in the lives of children at St. Jude.
Brothers gather for the Alumni Board
meetings of the spring semester. Alumni
Board meetings take place every month
at the Missouri Gamma Chapter House
and are open to all alumni and parents.
Dean of Engineering, Ian Ferguson,
Welcomed as New Faculty Fellow
T
he Missouri Gamma Chapter is extremely excited to announce Dean Ian Ferguson as one
of the Chapter's new faculty fellows. Dean Ferguson is originally from San Andrews,
Scotland. He only recently came to Missouri S&T, but has grown very fond of it quickly. He
strongly believes that learning never stops, which will make him such a
great asset to the Missouri Gamma Chapter. This belief strongly shows
in his education.
Dean Ferguson holds a bachelor of science degree in physics, a master
of science in optoelectronics and laser devices, and a Ph.D. in compound
semiconductors. He believes it is very important to continuously improve
ourselves but prefers to call it "re-optimization of improvement," as to
not imply that perfection is impossible. Before becoming the dean of
engineering at Missouri S&T eight months ago, Ian was both a professor
and chair at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Before this position, he worked as
a professor at Georgia Institute of Technology. Rolla, and the experience surrounding it, is
therefore very new to him.
Dean Ferguson loves hiking, and the hikes around Rolla will be very different from those he
is used to, especially his favorite spots in Scotland. Although he is an extremely hard working
individual, he stressed that it is very important for everyone to find a balance in their lives.
There is no doubt that Dean Ferguson will be an extremely valued asset to the Missouri Gamma
Chapter, as he has a lot of professional experience. The Chapter is looking forward to have
the dean share some of his knowledge through various presentations that will take place at the
Chapter House. Dean Ferguson can be reached at ianf@mst.edu.
