Generally SPEaking page 2 LETTERS TO OUR BROTHERS Sigma Phi Epsilon • Auburn University Dear Brothers, During my time at SipEp, the Chapter was able to grow our philanthropy from an idea to a weekly mentoring program simultaneously visiting two schools. By enacting KARMA as the fraternity's primary philanthropy, in just the first two years we were able to serve over 500 man-hours. KARMA is an anti-bullying program founded by an Auburn alumnus that serves to remove bullying from the school system in order for students to focus on what is important: school. Each semester a group of brothers met every Wednesday and Thursday to visit the schools in Columbus. By working with the "troubled" students, we were able to help students make better decisions in school while teaching them how to be nice and work together to change their school to a better place. Serving not only benefited the children, but has undoubtedly had a positive impact on all of our lives. I believe the work the fraternity put forth in my two years as philanthropy chairman has laid the groundwork for a very successful program working to change people's lives. As for myself, I will now be attending the University of Mississippi School of Law, where I plan to volunteer for the clinical the school offers and act as guardian ad litem for children to represent their interest in legal matters. There is no doubt that the time I've put in with my brothers for KARMA has affected my life in that it gave a direction to my career. Although I've enjoyed my time at SigEp, maybe at times a little too much, I myself am now graduated and the philanthropy is now in very capable hands. HFF, Blake Brookshire '14 2015 Doc Leadership Award Recipient Sigma Phi Epsilon • Auburn University Dear Brothers, It is truly an honor for me to receive the Doc Award and I am very grateful for the opportunity to share about what I've been doing while I've been at Auburn. The principles I learned in this fraternity have led me to become a better man and learn how to give everything I have to try to make an impact in everything I do. I have, in addition to being a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, been blessed to be able to serve as chaplain. I was honored to have the opportunity to share Jesus with my brothers and be able to lead them spiritually for over a year. I believe I have a calling to lead people to Jesus, which is why I've also been a part of an organization called Young Life while I've been at Auburn, and accepted a full-time position with them now that I have graduated. Young Life is a youth ministry that aims to share Jesus with every middle school and high school kid. We believe that every kid deserves to hear about the Lord and what He did for them, and we step into their lives to live alongside them. We go to their schools, football games, basketball games, plays, anywhere kids are. It's much more than a mentoring program or a hangout once a week; we live life with them and earn the right to be heard. We believe that kids don't care how much we know, until they know how much we care. So, we show them that we truly care about them and who they are in order to earn the right to tell them about Jesus. Young Life has been a huge part of my life and I have loved being able to call these high school kids my friends. I can't wait for the next part of my ministry and it is incredible to see everything that the Lord does in high schools and middle schools through Young Life.
