2A Daily News – Tuesday, January 10, 2012 Community people&events Actors needed for projects Actors are needed for various theater productions in 2012. Men and women aged 18 to 80 are needed and no previous acting experience is required. The BareStage Theatre will hold auditions at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14 and 15 in the meeting room at Round Table Pizza in Red Bluff. The projects for which the theater will be audition- ing include improvisational comedy (ie: "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?"), mystery dinners, standard stage plays and musicals. This will mark a return to the stage for the commu- nity theater group that has been only sporadically active since closing its venue in 2008, after seven years of continuous operation. "The arts are the first thing to be hit when the econ- omy takes a dunk," said BareStage board member Andy Dena. "But now that things are beginning to turn around, it's a great time to start a gradual return." Potential actors may simply show up at either day of the auditions and do not need to prepare any material in advance. If needed, additional information is available by calling the theater at 727-8080. Loan fund applications The Ivy B. Horr Medical Education Loan Fund is now accepting applications for 2012. Loans up to $10,000 are available to students who attended high school in Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, Modoc, Trinity or Siskiyou counties. The deadline is March 30. To be eligible for this scholarship the student must be engaged in the study of medicine or in medical training at a college or universi- ty. Ivy Buchler Horr was a resident of Glenburn, near Fall River Mills, from 1930 to her death in 1982. Ivy lost a battle with cancer, but her legacy remains. Ivy created a trust before she passed through which low interest loans are awarded to students Lassen, Trin- ity, Tehama, Modoc and Siskiyou counties pursuing an education in medicine. The trust, which had been held at Shasta College, was transferred to the Community Foundation for per- manent administration. For a the loan application and eligibility require- ments, visit www.shastarcf.org or call Kerry Caranci at 244-1219. Grateful for help with sculpture The Cottonwood Enrichment Council wants to acknowledge those that helped put together the bull sculp- ture that was recently installed in one of the Main Street medians in Cottonwood. The steel silhouette was installed Dec. 9 in the center median near Tri Counties Bank on Main Street, one of several cat- tle drive sculptures the council has installed. The difference is this sculpture will be open for community businesses and organizations to post their brands on soon, instead of each sculpture belonging to one owner. Community citizens and businesses chipped in to make the new sculpture possible.
