MU NEWS Χ Ω Mu Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of California-Berkeley Spring 2015 Chi Omega Celebrates Another Successful Semester at Cal Sisterhood, Academics, and Philanthropy Soar This Spring A WARM WELCOME Chi Omega welcomed 10 exceptional new members into our chapter this spring with a '60s-themed Bid Day, a new member retreat to the Big C and, of course, Big Little Week. We also welcomed our new housing director, Elizabeth Meche, who hosted an ice cream social to get to know the chapter. We are so fortunate to have Elizabeth's guidance and support. SMART COOKIES Earning a 3.425, Mu now has the third-highest cumulative GPA in the Cal Greek community. This achievement is particularly noteworthy when compared to the all-Cal cumulative GPA, a 3.263, and the Cal Greek cumulative GPA of 3.326. We owe this academic achievement to our biweekly study tables, our weekly study cookies and, above all, the effort and commitment of our scholarly sisters. Mu demonstrated its commitment to scholarship by inviting faculty to the biannual scholarship dinner this March. Faculty joined us for house tours and dinner and then shared their experiences as instructors and researchers. SPECIAL GUESTS This semester our chapter received an interactive alcohol skills training program made possible by a donation to the Chi Omega Foundation. We also received a special visit from Katherine Mendietta, Psi Beta '06, our national marketing specialist. She worked closely with the chapter to refine our marketing strategies and to coordinate a series of adventurous photo shoots. The shoots involved a pizza party, a trip to Memorial Glade, and a 6 a.m. sunrise hike. WE'RE HAVING A BALL On March 7, we hosted our annual fraternity kickball tournament with the support of Internal Philanthropy Chairman Jillian Friess '14 and Philanthropy Advisor Kimberly Glasgow Stern '84. This event made Mu history as it was our first at Memorial Stadium, had 350 attendees, and raised $2,800 for the Make-A- Wish Foundation. Up next for Mu? Sponsoring 13-year-old Lyndsey's wish to visit Hawaii. From starring in sisterhood photo shoots to granting wishes, Mu Chapter is having a blast this spring! Alumnae are encouraged to visit the house any time. Our door is always open!
