He can see himself becoming a general manager again but is enjoying his TV gig for the time being. While talking to the Warriors on Saturday, Mullin said he wished them luck and expressed his deep admi- ration and respect for Jackson — and told them how they can trust that Jackson is ''going to do everything he can do to put you in a position to succeed and shoulder the burden for them as much as he can.'' Mullin believes in Jackson's defense-first focus — Jackson guaranteed a playoff berth for this season — and that the Warriors can still be a high-scoring team with that approach. ''Mark, with no coaching experience, there's been a lot made about that. But being a player for so long, a lot of that will help him. The experience he needs to acquire, he'll get that along the way,'' Mullin said. ''We knew each other in high school, we went to college together, and through the NBA we always stayed in contact. Then we reunited in Indiana, shoot, 12 years later. We've always been close.'' After a few minutes chatting up Jackson near the bench during pregame warmups and reflecting on their longtime friendship and dissecting his team, Mullin was abruptly pulled away by a producer. ''I'm on the clock,'' he said with a smile as he depart- ed to start work. Wild Oats XI leads race SYDNEY (AP) — Favored supermaxi Wild Oats XI, winner of line honors in five of the past six years, held a lead of 16 nautical miles over its nearest rival in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race Tuesday as it led a depleted fleet into Bass Strait. Wild Oats XI and second-placed Investec Loyal had opened a significant gap over the remaining 85 yachts in the fleet after the withdrawal of 2003 line honors winner Wild Thing with sail damage. Investec Loyal was 23 miles ahead of third-placed Lahana which held a similar margin over Hugo Boss in fourth. The Anthony Bell-skippered Investec Loyal was second last year while Lahana, skippered by Peter Millard, has fin- ished second, third and fourth in previous years. On positions reported at 1.30pm AEDT (0230 GMT), Wild Oats XI had about 323 of the 628-nautical mile race to go before reaching the finish line off Hobart, capital of the island state of Tasmania. 0 0 .000 1/2 At A Glance By The Associated Press EASTERN CONFERENCE Atlantic Division GP W L N.Y. The Tigers were more than happy to claim the replacement. North Carolina scored first, with Renner hitting Dwight Jones for a 22- yard touchdown pass with 12:12 left in the first quar- ter. That would be the high point for the Tar Heels. RAIDERS Continued from page 1B seasons with at least 11 losses. Oak- land ended that run by going 8-8 last season, but the Raiders were eliminat- ed in the first quarter of their 15th game when Kansas City clinched the AFC West. In past years, elimination came far earlier in the season as the Raiders were never really even in contention. ''This time of year you're usually shipping your car home, making travel plans,'' linebacker Quentin Groves said. ''But now it's all about getting that W.'' And getting help. North Carolina had a either the New York Jets winning at Miami or Tennessee losing at Houston. The Jets and Titans play early Sun- day, but the Broncos' and Bengals' games will be simultaneous to Oak- land's, making for a complicated day. While some players said they don't want to know what happens in the other games, receiver T.J. Housh- mandzadeh said it will be impossible for him not to get updates throughout the day. ''I'm not going to be one of those guys that says, 'I won't be paying attention.' I will,'' he said. ''But all of that doesn't matter if we don't win. So the bottom line is, if we win, and we don't get in, it hurts, but, at least you handled your part of the deal.'' Houshmandzadeh has been to the playoffs twice, with Cincinnati in 2005 and Baltimore last season. Many of the other Raiders are still looking for their first postseason trip. ''It feels good to be this close,'' said safety Michael Huff, who is in his sixth season. ''It's been a while since it's been like this around here. It's a good feeling. We know we have to go out there and handle our business this week and everything will take care of itself.'' Notes: RB Darren McFadden (right foot), WR Jacoby Ford (left foot) and Huff (hamstring) all planned to run Monday to determine how close they are to returning to practice. Huff, who has missed the past two games, said he will play no matter what. Ford, who has missed six games, said he would like to play as long as it didn't hurt the team. Jackson said he'd have a better idea Wednesday if McFadden could return after missing the past eight games.
