Mu Chapter Strand of Pearls 2 Your Help Is Needed to Carry on Mu's Legacy M u Chapter is seeking loyal AEPhi alumnae to serve on the House Corporation. If you are interested in serving your chapter, please contact Andrea Cronig Mindell, Rho Chapter '79, at amindell@live.com. Caryn Bark '73 Enriched by Mu Sisterhood W hen Caryn Bark '73 reflects on her undergraduate experience, the laughter shared with Mu sisters is one of the first things to come to mind —fitting for someone who has dedicated her life to entertaining others. Throughout Caryn's career as a writer, comedian, and novelist, her Mu sisters have been a notable influence. Her novel, Mittelschmerz, demonstrates the importance of women's friendships and is based on an annual trip she takes with other AEPhi alumnae. Those sisters can often be seen in the audience of her performances, and Caryn is in the show Funny Old Broads with Mu sister Robin Warman Riebman. Years after leaving the U of I campus, Caryn is still remembered for her comedic influence on the chapter. "I was always in the rush sketch. Years later, I ran into an alumna who told me she joined AEPhi because I was so funny in the rush sketch," Caryn said. Caryn's older sister, Marla Bark Dembitz, is also a member of Mu and was a positive influence in Caryn's decision to join. After her formative experience at Mu, Caryn hopes her 15-year-old daughter, Tallulah, will also call 904 S. Third Street home. "Mu was like having family on campus," she said. "U of I is so big but when you come back to the house it's very haimish." Caryn and her husband, Dr. Fred Huss, reside in Chicago. They have two other children, Chapman (25) and Dashiell (24). The couple has studied ballroom dancing and is a big hit on the bar and bat mitzvah and wedding party circuit. In addition to her dancing, Caryn is also known for her one-woman show, Diary of a Skokie Girl, which ran for about 14 years. Her favorite gig is performing an evening of stand-up called What's So Funny about Being Jewish, which she does for synagogues, Jewish federations, and other nonprofits across the country. Caryn can be reached at skokiegurl@gmail.com. Thank You, Loyal Alumnae W e wish to extend our gratitude to the alumnae who have chosen to support Alpha Epsilon Phi.
