APRIL 15-21, 2015 UCW 21 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Good news. Remember that? Back before the up-to-the-second commentary on everything negative from Congress to candy bar recalls. We used to spread the story about good things going on around us. You can hard- ly turn on the TV or radio without hearing an angry activist's point of view anymore. So what happened? Did good news just fade away? No, we just stopped telling it. Let me challenge you to be part of turning that around. Remember that cashier who found the two $20 bills stuck together and gave one back? Brag on her. That guy who helped you as you struggled in the parking lot? Return the favor to a stranger, and remind others that good still exists in this crazy world of ours. The truth is — good still abounds. We've simply discovered we garner more attention by spouting off with the negative. Everyone seems to enjoy look- ing down on the problems of others because it gives us a chance to forget the problems of our own. Well, what if we changed that? What if we readily shared the good things in others? Would that perhaps give us a better look at the good in our own lives? It's worth a shot! There was a time in the Bible, when Peter — who was one of the original 12 disciples of Jesus — was approached by a group referred to as "the Zealots." They were a radical group, with their minds set on revolution and war against their oppressors. Though they saw the good Jesus had done before his ultimate death at the hands of those who felt threatened by his existence, they chose to focus on the negative, and wanted Paul and the other disciples to join them. Peter wouldn't have it. He saw the good, and agreed with the other disciples about sharing that story —far and wide. That's the ultimate good news. But what about you? The things you see, do, and experience today can be shared with the positive or the negative facts as the headline. It's your choice. DAN DEBRULER, WCLN Station Manager, Contributing Writer.
