It is easy to overlook the sacrifices that military children make and taking a day to celebrate their resiliency and offer fun activities for families is just one way to let mili- tary children know that they matter. "We do the children's festival in the support of the month of the military child," said Dorene Jenkins, child, youth and school services outreach director. "All of our programs on Fort Bragg do activities all month long and then we bring everything together and have one big bang at the end of the month of April for the children's festival." Jenkins added that the festival cel- ebrates Army families and children who get to spend a whole day in an envi- ronment where they participate in fun activities. It is a great opportunity for interaction between parents and the children who get the opportunity to show off what they do at day care. The fest features carnival rides, a climbing wall, jump tower, Toddlerville, Pallabar the Clown and face painting. Toddlerville has activi- ties specifically geared for children 2 and under such as making hats and hand painting. The first 400 children will receive a free T-shirt. There will be food available to purchase such as funnel cakes, hot dogs, candy apples, cotton candy and more. Throughout the day, a variety of door priz- es are up for grabs. "We have anywhere between 2,500 to 3,000 parents," said Jenkins. "We receive sponsorship dollars for our T-shirts that we give out to the children." Jenkins added the Fort Bragg MWR Special Events section and the soldiers help a to set up and prepare for the day. This is truly a Fort Bragg team effort, with one goal: to make sure the event is a blast. "We have a lot of different vendors and agencies that will come out like the fire department, Lone Star Steakhouse, Lakeshore and others," said Jenkins. "It is a great day and we are hoping for the best of weather." Admission is $10; cash only. Children under 36" can get in free. The event is open to the public and you can access the fair- grounds without going through a checkpoint. For more informa- tion, call 396-8110 or 396-5128. DR.
