He had the unique opportunity to get to know John Peyton '42, and they became very good friends over time. "My wife, Shelly, and I got married near John's summer cabin west of Boulder in Glacier Lake. Getting to know an older SigEp gave me perspective on the history of the Chapter and the motivation to volunteer my time to this organization. I truly believe that helping shape the lives of young SigEps is a very worthy endeavor. I want them to have the best time of their college lives in a safe, fulfilling environment at 1005 Broadway. It is a simple commitment, and it is well worth the effort." "Any time you can herd 50-100 young adults in a positive direction, you are helping our community and our country. My brothers went on to become surgeons, fighter pilots, Army war veterans, CEOs, SigEp grand treasurers, entrepreneurs, athletes, husbands, partners, and fathers. As a father of two, I strive to instill in my children the principles of hard work and discipline; traits that SigEp taught me. And as I continue to improve the Colorado Alpha house on a weekly basis as Housing Committee chairman, the ghosts of the past are definitely there, whispering to me to help the brotherhood go forward. I know it might sound a bit sappy, but this is truly how I feel. If anyone is interested in lending their time to a great cause, I would love your help in keeping our SigEp alive and thriving!" Allen and Shelly live in Nederland, Colorado, and have two children, Izzy and Aidan. In his spare time, Allen can be found fly fishing, mountain biking, and kayaking. "Other than that, running a business and making sure the bulbs on the SigEp heart above the red doors are burning bright and there is good food on the table for my family round out my day. I have learned from Sigma Phi Epsilon not to waste a precious moment of any day." You can contact Allen at robiewan@msn.com.
