Agricultural Business * Legacy, relative in parentheses + Deceased Welcome, New Initiates Ryan Downs '88 Receives Philanthropy Laureate Award R yan Downs '88, CEO of Proxibid and resident of Springfield, Neb., was recently honored with the FarmHouse Foundation's Philanthropy Laureate Award, its most prestigious honor. Ryan was recognized during FarmHouse International Fraternity's 48th Biennial Conclave, July 23-27, 2014, in Charlotte, N.C. "Ryan Downs is truly an exemplar of the type of person the Foundation seeks to recognize through its Philanthropy Laureate Award," Jim Tobin, chairman of the board of trustees and vice president of channel engagement for Monsanto said. "Ryan is an innovative, forward- thinker and a visionary leader who always challenges the Foundation to be creative, think outside the box and take strategic risks. In doing so, during his tenure as chairman, the Foundation realized back-to-back record years in fundraising. Ryan always lends his time and talents with great integrity, innovation and a vision to Build the Leaders of Tomorrow." The FarmHouse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public educational foundation supporting the educational and leadership programs of FarmHouse International Fraternity, as well as providing scholarships to individual members for academic achievement. AWARDS AND HONORS Grant Stahla '12 Wins New Venture Competition T his past March, Grant Stahla '12 was awarded $50,000 as the winner of the UNL New Venture Competition with his business, Stahla Services. He was selected from 40 competing businesses. Stahla Services is a new business that will rent out a comfortable restroom trailer complete with air conditioning, heating, full-sized mirror, and hot and cold water. Grant has already begun to rent the trailer out for outdoor events in Nebraska.
