NEBRASKA CHAPTER 5 CHAPTER ETERNAL Ralph P. Hild '49 entered Chapter Eternal November 3, 2013. He was a resident of Plattsmouth, Neb. ALUMNI NEWS William C. Garnick '34 recently celebrated his 101st birthday. He and his wife, Billie Jo, live in Crowheart, Wyo. Warren Hutchinson '41 served in the U.S. Navy as a gunnery officer in the Asian Pacific. He taught veteran classes for four years, then was employed by Walnut Grove Products for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He and his wife, Helen, have three children and live in Atlantic, Iowa. E-mail: dfbroek@aol.com Lyle I. Droge '43 was in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, taught school for 10 years, and farmed for 40 years. Now retired, Lyle and his wife, Wilma, live in Pawnee City, Neb., and have three children. Donald W. Kellogg '47 is 90 years old and is, "shooting for 100." He lives in Phoenix, Ariz., with his wife, Lois. He writes, "I'm always glad to see FarmHouse accomplishments. It's good to see all those towns scattered across the state, it means we are known statewide for our excellence." Donald came from Edgemont South Dakota and recalls riding the passenger train and driving down old Highway 2. He has a lot of FarmHouse and Big Red pride. Frank A. Reeves '49 and his wife, Barbara, moved to Kendal at Oberlin, in Ohio, a Quaker- related continuing care retirement community, in 2009. Wittler '50 is now 86 years old and maintains an active lifestyle. "I still mow the lawn and walk the golf course," he said. He enjoys hearing about FarmHouse and appreciates its continued quality and growth. He and his wife, Marian, live in Loveland, Colo., where he keeps busy with his rental properties. Calvin E. Lemmon '53 and his wife, Marilyn, are both retired real estate brokers. They operated their own real estate company for many years and retired in 2013. They live in San Antonio, Texas. Frahm, Ph.D. '58 has met with Brothers Rus Edeal '58, Don Epp '58, and Gary Vencil '58, along with their spouses, for an annual trip including four to seven days of fellowship. Vencill '58 has written and directed a five-act play, The Trial of Anne Hutchinson, and is finishing a book on the Puritans. He is also working on a book about agrarianism in American history, with a focus on farm life on the Nebraska plains in the first half of the 20th century. Their children and their spouses include two M.D.'s, two college professors, a retired VP of fortune 500 company, a professional basketball player, and nine grandchildren. Ron is now retired but has enjoyed a full career as a commodity trader. He served on the American State Bank Board of Directors and later was a homebuilder in Houston. He is a two-time cancer survivor and has run 18 marathons, been a barefoot skier, and done some steer wrestling. Ron also had a political career, including the Texas Republican Executive Board and ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996. Hanway Jr. '63 has written and published three books since his retirement in 2004. He and his wife, Nadine, have three children and six grandchildren. The couple lives in Lincoln. He devised a Hastings Homestead Act wherein businesses can develop the space they need and after five years of commitment to the building, the "homesteader" receives a deed to the business condominium that has been developed. He said, "In effect we are creating business, jobs, and profit without taxpayer support. A true example of free enterprise." Goodenberger, M.D. '67 moved back to St. Louis after five years in Dallas, where he was a professor and vice-chair of medicine at UT Southwestern. He and his wife, Christine, have two children, Katie and James. John A. Novotny '74 has been the business manager for Columbus Otolaryngology Clinic for 27 years. He has been on several medical mission trips, including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Kenya, and Haiti. He and his wife, Nila, have three children: Ashley, Tyson and Giana. They live in Columbus, Neb.
