Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Detectives arrested 29 year-old Christian Dawkins of Fayetteville, for stealing batteries from buses at several local schools on March 11, 2015. Dawson is charged with 16 counts of Felony Breaking or Entering a Motor Vehicle, 16 counts of Misdemeanor Larceny and 16 Counts of Possession of Stolen Goods. Dawkins is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under an $80,000 secured bond. Community mourns loss of notable Civic and Business Leader RICHARD L. Player was a vital part of the growth and development of the Fayetteville and Cumberland County business community 40 Under 40 Honored for Accomplishments Forty young professionals from Fayetteville and the Cape Fear region were honored last weekend during the Fayetteville Observer's fifth annual 40 Under 40 celebration. This program recognizes area residents under the age of 40 who are successful professionals and who contribute to the business and civic community. State Auditors Invade Spring Laker State auditors have stepped in to audit the books for the Town of Spring Lake after it became known that unauthorized and questionable use of the town issued credit cards. Town Manager Ken Metcalf resigned after admitting that he failed to oversee the management of the cards. PWC and City of Fayetteville fail to reach agreement Eighteen hours of mediation and nearly $200,000 in legal fees have basically resulted in a stalemate between the city and the PWC public utility board. PWC filed a legal complaint against the city that has been on hold pending the outcome of the mediation. It now looks like the issue will be taken up and have to be resolved by the state legislature in Raleigh. Utilities and Water turned Off then On at Troubled Jubilee House The lights and water have been restored to Barbara Marshall's transitional home for women veterans thanks to a generous Fayetteville community. However, Marshall and the management of the house are still being questioned about its management and are currently being investigated by Office of the N.C. Secretary of State and State Attorney General's Office. Cape Fear Valley Flu Restrictions Lifted Cape Fear Valley Health has lifted its visitor policy restricting children under age 12 from visiting its hospitals effective immediately. The policy was implemented Dec. 17 to minimize the spread of flu and other flu-like illnesses. In addition, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center's Emergency Department is no longer limiting visitors to just one per patient. Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, are still urged not to visit friends and family at the medical center. They should remain home instead and call their primary care physician for treatment guidance. Hand washing is the most effective way to reduce the spread of flu and other types of infection.
