PAGE 4 Theta Chi T he fall semester was a new experience and a time of learning as the construction of our new house began. While some might expect not having a chapter house would harm a chapter, Gamma Tau has thrived and shown the Drake community what we are capable of. The fall was one of the best academic terms of the past four years. Our scholarship chairman, Eric Zange '16, really put the time and effort into implementing a new scholarship program and supporting all brothers who needed assistance. We had nine 4.0 GPAs, 27 3.5 GPAs or above, and welcomed a second academic advisor, Jennifer Glover Konfrst, to help us improve even more. Eighteen brothers made the Dean's List and nine made the President's List. GAMMA TAU SUPPORTS WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT In the fall we hosted our third annual G.I. Theta Chi event, which raised $1,500 for Wounded Warrior Project. In the spring we plan to pair up with Kappa Kappa Gamma for a bracelet-making event for Graham's Gifts, an organization started by a Kappa member's brother that raises money to fight cancer. EVENTS ABOUND AT GAMMA TAU We began the fall with a brotherhood camping retreat, competed in Sweetheart Sing with Alpha Phi and Pi Kappa Phi during parent's weekend, and 12 brothers attended Drake's fall leadership conference. Matt Craven '18 learned that "to be a leader you don't have to influence through grand acts in front of large groups of people, but you can make a big impact on individuals through small actions every day." As a chapter we completed over 1,200 hours of community service. During parent's weekend we hosted a parents gala and had alumni, parents, and friends of undergraduates speak about how Gamma Tau has impacted them. Our silent auction raised $1,000 and we pinned 16 new members. Last month, we hosted dad's weekend. "I look forward to dad's weekend because I enjoy having some one-on-one time with my son in his environment away from the distractions of school," said Lance Graves, father of Adam Graves '16. "It gives me a chance to meet his friends and fraternity brothers, as well as a few of the other dads." INTRAMURALS LOOKING STRONG We qualified for playoffs in volleyball, football, and soccer last fall and are excited for basketball, indoor soccer, and baseball this spring. THANK YOU TO ALUMNI As we watch the construction of the new house, we cannot thank our alumni enough for everything you have done. There is no doubt in our minds that without your help we would not be here today. It is because of you that we will be given the opportunity of a lifetime, and we can only hope to give this same opportunity to many others in the years to come. We hope to see everyone here for the Drake Relays, April 24-25, where you will all have the opportunity to see how far our new fraternity house has come!
