Witte '13 Corporate Matching Gifts Aon Hewitt Towers Watson Importance of Chapter House Influences Ken Krucks '75 to Give to Campaign K en Krucks '75 originally pledged Phi Delta Theta at Drake but soon found his pledge class had very little unity. When the chapter was approached by the Pikes to play them in football, the Phi Delts declined because they thought they might lose. After this, Ken knew he had pledged the wrong house and his sights turned toward Theta Chi. Gamma Tau was very small at the time, but he felt he could have an impact on the chapter. He recalls Theta Chi may have only had three members and didn't have a house; something that, perhaps, caused him to really value the importance of a chapter house. While an undergraduate, Ken served as pledge marshal and was an economics major in the College of Liberal Arts. He noted that there was little to no alumni involvement in the chapter at that time since the alumni were so young. The chapter had been in existence for just over 20 years, and alumni were perhaps busy building their careers and raising their families. Along with Dave Schulte '83 and Tom Olive '85, Ken was responsible for a generous $150,000 dollar-for-dollar match to A Testament to Our Past, A Legacy for Our Future campaign. To Ken, it is very important to support the capital campaign so future generations of brothers can have the opportunities and experiences he did not get when he was an undergraduate due to small membership and lack of a permanent chapter house. Ken saw the positive things that happened to the chapter when the 34th Street residence was purchased in the mid- 1970s and is very pleased to see the alumni organization as it stands today. He knows how important it is for the undergraduate chapter to be able to seek the advice and guidance of men who have traveled the same roads. Today Ken lives in Chicago and when not working is an avid Bulls fan and tries to make every home game. He also tries to catch Drake games when they travel to Chicago. Reach out to Ken via e-mail at ken.krucks@rauland.com. Mike Rossley '18, Tom Rossley '82, and Ken Krucks '75 enjoy a Drake-Loyola basketball game.
