Earlier in the week, the association hosted a Red Hot Bootcamp with trainers JJ Henry of J's Fit Factory and D'allen Pretlow of DSDQ Fitness at DSDQ Headquarters, 606 Hobson Street. Participants received a T-shirt for improving their health through exercise. On Feb. 2, Fayetteville Mayor Nat Robertson issued a special proclamation for Paint the Town Red Week, Today, Feb. 4: {Red}y or Not: Heart Health & Life Awareness for Your 20s, 30s and Beyond is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Highland Country Club (This is conjunction with the Fayetteville Young Professionals and Rotary Club Speaker Series). The event is free to attend. Attendees who donate will each receive a Red Dress pin. February 6: Red Wine Night at The Wine Cafe, downtown at 5 p.m. Wear your favorite RED attire to this networking event. FREE to attend. Attendees who donate will each receive a Red Dress pin. February 6: NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY! The City of Fayetteville employees, Cumberland County employees and Town of Spring Lake employees will all wear RED! Please e-mail goredfayetteville@gmail.com for details on how you can get involved Civil War Events at the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum The Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum will commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War and the Fayetteville occupation by Union General Sherman and his Army with exhibits and programs. The museum has featured the exhibit Cumberland Goes to War: The Role of Fayetteville and Cumberland County During the Civil War since 2011. For this Spring, the museum will feature: The Fall of Fayetteville: March 1865 This exhibit, which opens March 3, will focus on the 150th anniversary of the surrender and occupation of Fayetteville during the period of March 11- 14, 1865. The exhibit will include copies of line drawings of Fayetteville executed by war correspondents, and quotes by soldiers and citizens who were witnesses to these events. A rare Lilly family heirloom that speaks to this period will be exhibited. A silver tray which was removed from the Lilly home was used by Yankees for target practice, and was later recovered and retained by the family. Admission is free. FAYETTEVILLE CIVIL WAR BUS TOUR A bus tour will take participants to various sites related to Fayetteville's Civil War experience on Saturday, March 7. Once on-site the tour will involve moderate walking, and a rare opportunity to venture into sites not normally open to the public. The tour will involve a live fire cannon demonstration at the Cape Fear River by members of Braddy's Battery, 2nd N.C. Light Artillery. Pre- registration is required and the tour has a fee of $3 per person. Participants will travel via bus but the tour does involve moderate walking. MONROE'S CROSSROADS 150th ANNIVERSARY BUS TOUR; TUESDAY MARCH 10th, Noon to 4 pm An extremely historic opportunity for participants to receive an interruptive tour of the Monroe's Crossroads will occur on Tuesday, March 4 from noon to 4 p.m. on the 150th anniversary of the battle, which represents the first engagement between Confederate and Union troops in Cumberland County. The briefing and tour will be conducted by personnel assigned to Fort Bragg Cultural Resources. Pre-registration is required and the tour has a fee of $3 per person. Participants will travel by bus to the battlefield on Fort Bragg, and the tour will involve moderate walking.
