October 19, 2011 Upcoming Events at Arizona West- ern College Quartzsite Learning Center Thinking about transferring to a university to continue your studies? A Transfer Fair is scheduled to take place at the Arizona Western College Parker Learning Center (1109 Geroni- mo Ave., Parker, AZ) on October 26th from 1- 3 pm. Representatives from a number of Arizona Universities will be present, as well as the AWC Transfer Department staff. Transportation will be available from the AWC Quartzsite Learning Center (QLC). Please call Kimberly at the QLC to reserve a spot on the van: (928) 927-8299. The Winter Life Enrichment Classes AWC events will begin during the month of No- vember at the AWC Quartzsite Learn- ing Center. Most classes will last four weeks and be repeated several times before the end of the winter season. Catalogs with class descriptions and dates being offered are currently be- ing printed and will soon be available to the public. available at the learn- ing center, the Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce, and in stands at around the Quartzsite community. Classes being offered between Nov. 1st and Dec. 15th are: The Art of Man- dalas, Drawing With Your Hidden Mind: A Path to Creativity, Drawing, Oil Painting, Art Lab, Wood Carv- ing, Jewelry Making for the Beginner, Sculpting, Wonders of the Night Sky, ABC's of Computing 1 & 2, Digital Pho- to Manipulation, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Flamenco Dance, and Meditation. These and several other new classes will start up again after the college's winter break. Classes after the winter break begin the week of January 9th. Let's see how much we can donate to- ward Leukemia and Blood Cancer Research with this great program. • Scholastic Book Fair 10/16 – 10/21 • Parent/Teacher Conferences 10/20 & 10/21 Early Release on both Days. Your child's schedule will be coming home with them. Stop in at the Scholastic Book Fair after your child's conference. Did you know that we have a RC Flying club? They meet most mornings at the James B. Colwell Flying Field, located at the Town park. The flying field has a paved runway for remote control flying. Many of the club members have buddy boxes so you can try your hand at RC flying without the worry of crashing a plane. The experienced flier with the buddy box can bail you out! This club has grown from just a handful to Quartzsite Desert Flyers over 55 members and many more visitors and guests. The flying field is open to every- one. You do not need to be a member of the club to enjoy RC flying. It's a fun way to enjoy the desert weather and remote control flying. Carpet to keep the dust down, and new tables are ready for you to join the fun at the flying field! See you in the morning! Thinking about taking a Life Enrich- ment Class but would like more infor- mation? Attend our Instructor Meet and Greet event at the AWC Quartz- site Learning Center. The instructors will be available with examples or demonstrations of class activities. You can ask your questions, enjoy some re- freshments, and even register for class if you like. This event is scheduled to be held in the AWC Quartzsite Learning Center lobby on Thurs- day, November 10th, from 4 to 5 pm.
