I remember it in early days of my life as a preacher filled with the Holy Ghost preaching hell, fire and brimstone out in an open lot. We didn't have the comfortable pews or seats, but two by eight wood- en boards under the evening lights of the moon or plain old incandescent lights strung across the open vacant lot. In those days we all needed it and today we need it even more. Forty years ago a young man named Mario Murillo came to Corn- ing, Cal. It was during the time we called the "Jesus Movement." Yes it was during the "Hippie" days of our lives. Forty years ago Corning experi- enced an incredible move of God. Yes it was revival. Lives were changed and many came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. So what has hap- pened since then? Revival has been defined as, " Revival would be to recover, repair or restore." These are probably "three" of the most important "R's" in our spiritual lives. Hosea 10:12 says: "Sow to yourself in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the Lord till He come and reign righteousness upon you." What has happen in the past forty years is that the spiritual ground has become fallow. So you would have to ask, "What is fallow ground?" "Fal- low ground is ground that has been fruitful, and then it has been plowed over, and no seed has been sown in it, and therefore it has become unproductive." Simply said, "Just a plain old weed patch!" If we were dealing with computers we would probably call it a "virus patch." In that case we would need to recover files, repair the system and restore it back to working order. Revival to man is recovering, repairing and restoring the spiritual files of our lives. Psalm 85:6 "Would Thou town of San Benito, Texas, at an old fashion revival meeting. The term J.R. not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee." If you had drowned in the Sacramento river, would you want someone to revive you and bring you back to life? Your answer would be, "Yes." As you were brought back to life you would experience "revival" and we would rejoice God used an individual to help bring you back to life. These are the days that we as the people of God must break up the fal- low ground of our hearts. We need, "Revival!!" It is not as easy as it sounds because it involves the break- ing up of that hardened soil in men's hearts that have slowly strayed away from a loving God. God desires still to have an incredi- ble relationship with His creation, man. Man sinned and fell short of the glory of God. God can recover, repair and restore you back to God specifica- tions through Jesus Christ. It can hap- pen to you as it did for me back in the WE ARE CALLED TO GATHER The Rev. Justin Hoye, pastor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo.: Wrong? No. Missing out? Yes. In each of the Synoptic Gospels (Mk 2:17 ; Mt 9:13 ; Luke 5:32 ), Jesus announces that he has come to call sinners to repentance, not the righteous. Those who are healthy have no need of a savior. Houses of worship provide a gathering for those who are sick, wounded and openly in need of for- giveness, nourishment and direction. In addition, a Catholic professes that in liturgical action we encounter Jesus Christ in a way we do not on our own. Our public worship — as the Body of Christ — is a partic- ipation in the words and actions of our eternal high priest, Jesus. Our Scriptures proclaim his life, and our words and actions make present his saving words and actions. Public worship is an immersion in the saving work of Jesus. The joining of sinners into communion is a sacred action that assists our growth in holiness and acknowledges our belief that Jesus is present when we gather in his name. This is why the author of Hebrews encourages the faithful to "not stay away from the assembly" (Heb 10:25) because a disciple of Jesus needs the encouragement of others. Gonzales GodTalk city. You can have a revival that covers the whole nation! See you there. The meetings include free haircuts for school children Monday, Oct. 9; free hot dogs on Tuesday, Oct. 10; a working dog show, car show and other fun "out of the box" activities. More than 15 Tehama County churches and ministries are participating. J.R. Gonzales is a man with a rich background of preaching, teaching and singing the Word of God. During 45 years in ministry he has traveled South America, Mexico, Canada, Isreal and much of America bringing the Gospel of Jesus to many.He is the Pastor of New Life Assembly in Corning. People are hypocrites, am I wrong to worship at home? SHARE SPIRITUAL JOURNEYS The Rev. Duke Tufty, Unity Temple on the Plaza, Kansas City: Churches and temples aren't the exclusive res- idence for hypocrites. Hypocrites are everywhere; there is even a bit of one in me. I preach living standards and moral codes that at times aren't represented in my words and actions. I try to be a good person and live according to the book but at times fall short. I am a student of life, not a grad- uate of life. I am in the process of learning how to be the best I can be but still far from the finish line, and I'm okay with the way I am, a work in progress. Just as a student who hasn't learned how to read or write will learn, day by day, how to command a sizeable vocabu- lary and write proficiently, we human beings are learning how to be unconditionally loving and treat all people the way we want to be treated. Children are made aware of their misspellings and errors in grammar, learn from their mis- takes and advance. When we are aware of our actions and the effect they have on others, we can learn from our mis- takes and advance. The true value of a church, however, is joining together with other like souls and sharing the journey.
