Since Mizzou officially became a member of the SEC in 2012, the campus has been energized and it has provided a sense of pride and excitement for both alumni and students. Alumni support is at an all-time high. The Mizzou Alumni Association has a record number of memberships, exceeding more than 44,400 members. I know many of you support MU through membership in the alumni association, and I hope that you can find a way to support Phi Delta Theta as well. The Chapter House Corporation (CHC) is working to make the house a place that alumni want to come back to and visit. A budget was created to enhance the alumni experience during home game tailgates, and we began publishing The MO Alpha Phi newsletter to reconnect and improve our communications. Over the past three years the CHC has experienced a major overhaul. All of the members are local to Columbia and have goals that go deeper than improving the physical chapter house. We are working to improve our membership and reestablish MO Alpha as a top five chapter in academics, philanthropy, and athletics. Our accomplishments include: • Meeting with every member of the chapter on an individual basis • Hiring a full-time house director and a new management/accounting firm • Conducting a detailed financial analysis of the house • Hosting monthly meetings to discuss the state of the chapter and Greek life at MU • Implementing an incentive plan for current members for recruitment and cleaning the chapter house • Updating the alumni database • Conduct quarterly maintenance cost analysis and substantially cutting accounts receivable • Working with the fraternal consortium to lobby for pro-Greek policies on the MU campus Alumni have been asking about what they can do to help MO Alpha. Naturally, they expect me to ask them to join the house corporation or make a gift. Private support is important for Phi Delt, but I challenge you to show your support in one of the following ways: Come home. I know a lot of you come back for football games or to visit the Phi Delt house. Don't miss the opportunity to walk around campus or through the house. Experience the new things and relive some great memories with past and current members. Recruit members. Think about all the outstanding young people you know and encourage them to consider Mizzou and, of course, Phi Delta Theta. It's a great time to be a Tiger! Advocate for Phi Delt. As a graduate, you have a vested interest in the well-being of your alma mater. Educate yourself on the great things going on at MU and MO Alpha and share liberally. Mizzou is making changes for the better. It's time for us, as alumni, to work together and make the positive changes seen in the university happen in the chapter as well. Thanks again for all you do for Mizzou and Phi Delt. A sense of nostalgia from our collegiate days is a welcoming feeling. When we walked onto campus as 18-year-olds, we had no idea of the significance that Mizzou would hold so many years later." Not many alumni from MU can boast such a long and deep family connection surrounding the university as J. Edward "Ed" Travis III '56. "I have an incredible family history with Mizzou, and Phi Delta Theta was an intrinsic part of that history for four years." Ed has been attending Mizzou football games since 1943. His father, J. Edward "Brick" Travis, was a Kappa Sigma at MU and is one of seven Mizzou football players that has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Once it was time for Ed to go through "rush", his father had hoped that he would pledge Kappa Sig, but Phi Delt grabbed Ed's attention first. "I was a senior in high school when two "rush" co-chairmen made a visit to my home in St. Charles. When it was time for my six "rush" dates I gave Phi Delt numbers one Visit 101 E.
