L ast summer, Recruitment Chairman DJ Bucholz '17 attended the Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute. While he was there he was given a chance to study the Bond, the Three Cardinal Principles, and our ritual in depth. During the initiation ceremony, with more than 800 men in attendance, the realization hit him that Phi Delt is much greater than MO Alpha. The connection of fellow Phis across the country is one of the most rewarding things he has and he hopes to spread that message to the future members of MO Alpha. DJ is now one of the most successful recruitment chairmen in chapter history. "My main goal for MO Alpha is to become a top-tier chapter. I want to make the Phi Delt name known on campus by rebuilding our image. We have made exponential strides already, but we still have room for improvement. Thanks to alumni help, we recruited a 34-man pledge class this fall—the biggest class since the 1990s." DJ has learned a great deal from chapter leadership, but he and the rest of his pledge class are eager to step up and be the next leaders of the chapter. He has seen huge strides in collaboration between officers, chapter members, advisors, and alumni. Seeing more alumni visit the chapter house has been an important goal for DJ and the rest of the chapter offices. They hope to reinstate the connection between the active chapter and alumni by reaching out and communicating with them regularly. "Alumni who have come by recently seemed impressed with the house and were happy to be back. We will continue to reestablish relationships and invite all alumni to visit anytime." To ask DJ more about his goals for MO Alpha, or to notify him of a potential new member, you may contact him at djb27f@mail.missouri.edu or (314) 853-0787.
