S tan Danielson '71 joined Theta Chi to broaden his collegiate experience and join the brotherhood he saw during recruitment. Thankfully, Stan was not disappointed and began a journey with Theta Chi that has led him to a lifetime of service in the medical world. As an undergraduate, Stan served as vice president and was academic co-chair of IFMC while still finding time to graduate with a bachelor's degree in zoology. From there, he went on to graduate from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 1976. Today he is a practicing physician in family medicine and geriatrics with an office in Altoona, Iowa. He teaches resident physicians and medical students locally and is a clinical assistant professor at his alma mater. Besides seeing regular patients, he is also medical director of three nursing homes in Central Iowa: Trinity Center at Luther Park, The Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, and Prairie Vista Village, and serves on the board of directors of Unity Point Clinic and the parent board of Unity Point Health. Although his days in the Alpha Mu chapter house are over, Stan is still thankful for Theta Chi. "Theta Chi helped me develop socially and taught me the concept of the helping hand. The experience helped teach me to be efficient with my time as we were quite busy, but found time for academics, recreation, and fellowship/ brotherhood. It taught me loyalty, responsibility, perseverance, and how to cooperate with others. We all learned how individuals fit into a group and had a real sense of community. We learned to be respectful of others." Stan remembers the housemother who taught him social graces, table manners, and the fine art of conversation. "She taught us that everyone's favorite subject is himself or herself and their family, so one never needs to be at a loss for conversation." Stan has stayed involved with Theta Chi by serving on the alumni board for several years and assisting Dr. Jon Fleming '75 in any way he asked. He and his wife, Deborah (Delta Zeta-Truman State 1974), have been married for 38 years and have two daughters: Samantha (ADPi-ISU 2005) is a physician at the University of Iowa just beginning her pulmonary/critical care fellowship, and Sabrina (Delta Zeta, ISU) is a recent graduate from the University of Iowa College of law now clerking for a federal court judge.
