page 2 The Crescent Recruitment by the Numbers 2014 1 Rush is now called recruitment, and participants are no longer called rushees, they are potential new members (PNMs). 2 2,241 women participated in fall 2014 recruitment, the largest sorority recruitment in the country. 3 615 potential new members were from Alabama (only 27% of the total number of PNMs). 4 1,510 individual recommendations were received by Delta Mu. Per our Panhellenic Carry Figure, Delta Mu was allowed to invite back just over half of these PNMs to the second round of parties. 5 16 National sororities participated in formal recruitment. 6 2,054 women were successfully pledged to a sorority. 7 3.61 was the average high school GPA of freshmen women participating in recruitment. Delta Mu recommends that a recruit have at least a 3.0 high school GPA. 8 56 DDD legacies participated in recruitment. Nationally, Tri Delta recognizes daughters and sisters of members as legacies. 9 Delta Mu successfully met quota pledging 115 new members. 41 new members were from Alabama, with many more having ties to Delta Mu alumnae. 21 new members are legacies or have a close ΔΔΔ relative. Baylor Jeffries / Mobile, Ala. mining the number of invitations a participating chapter may issue during the recruitment pro- cess. This new method is called Release Figure Methodology. NPC implemented this new sys- tem for several reasons; it maximizes the number of PNMs who ultimately join a sorority and it enables each chapter to invite a sufficient num- ber of PNMs to each event round to make quota at the end of recruitment. NPC specialists are assigned to our campus to monitor the numbers during recruitment and as- sign a carry figure, or an invitation number, to each chapter for each party round. They base these figures on a three-year average return rate. Why is this important to you? The chapters with the highest return figures, or the highest number of women accepting in- vitations to a party round, are given the low- est carry figures or party invitations. This is good and bad news. Tri Delta at the University of Alabama is a very strong chapter and an excel- lent recruiter. Our percentage of women accept- ing invitations to our parties is as high as 99%! Now for the bad news, because of our excel- lent return figures, Panhellenic has determined that we need fewer invitations for each party round in order to make quota. Remember, the stronger the chapter the fewer the invitations. In the past we all remember courtesy rushes, those were women who might be a legacy at another sorority or simply have strong ties to another sorority, but we wanted to include them in our invitation lists due to some relationships. This practice has become increasingly difficult and unworkable, as our carry figure or invitation lists have shrunk. In order to reach our ultimate goal of pledging quota, the chapter must focus on PNMs that they have a realistic chance of pledging. This is especially critical in the later rounds of recruitment. Successful recruitment has always been based on building serious and meaningful relationships with PNMs and that is still Delta Mu's number one priority. With that said, a successful recruit- ment also depends on the careful management of and realistic approach to our carry and release figures. Since the NPC put this new method into prac- tice in 2004, more women have successfully pledged their first choice, more chapters con- sistently make quota, and smaller houses have grown larger. All of this makes the Greek system stronger and Delta Mu supports a strong Greek system at the University.
