A nother great fall begins in Tuscaloosa! We have much to be excited about at DDD—an outstanding pledge class of 115 girls, the honor of being the number one fundraising chapter for St. Jude Children's Hospital, and the opportunity to come together to dedicate the plaques honoring the many generous gifts to the Century of Sisterhood campaign. This is also a very special Founder's Day celebration for the 100th year for Delta Mu Chapter. New Women Join Sisterhood As you will see on page 2, more than just the terminology and size of the Chapter have changed over these past 100 years. As the University has grown, so has the Greek community; the growth of both are closely related. It is not just a great football team or even the increasing prestige of so many academic programs on campus that brings students from all over the country to UA. Many cite that they are looking for the full college experience, a real connection and sisterhood, just as "old timers" like me were when we came here eons ago! Greek System Supporting Young Women The research is in to support the benefits of the Greek system for these students. The Gallup organization released findings last spring that members of Greek organizations are "more likely to report being emotionally supported and having experiential and deep learning activities while in college." And the benefits do not stop at graduation. Is this not what we all want for our own children and all of our Delta sisters? For a look at the full report, visit thegallupblog.gallup.com and search for "Fraternity and Sorority Membership." On to Our Celebration We hope you will join us for brunch on November 16 to celebrate the generosity of so many alumnae during our campaign. These women chose to pass on the legacy—providing for the next century of members, just as our Delta Mu founders and others have done for 100 years. We will admire our new home, as well as the plaques and donor wall that recognize our generous donors and those they chose to honor and memorialize in such a beautiful, meaningful, and lasting manner. What a great time to share with our sisters! If you are unable to attend the dedication in November, consider coming by the house for a tour and lunch with your pledge class or a group of friends. I would be happy to set this up for you with the Chapter. We look forward to a special day!
