page 2 The Carnation Chronicle Alumna Makes Lifelong Commitment Nancy Limperis Dschida '78 Thankful for Gamma Iota Experience A fter graduating from the University of Florida, Nancy Limperis Dschida '78 knew her Alpha Chi Omega experience wasn't over. Through her undergraduate years at Gamma Iota, she created some of her best memories and developed lasting friendships. These experiences motivated her to continue her support of Alpha Chi Omega and the Panhellenic community. As an alumna, she served on the house corporation and was a financial advisor, new member advisor, and ritual advisor for the Gamma Chapter at Northwestern University. She was also the Alpha Chi Omega representative and treasurer for the Chicago Alumnae Panhellenic organization. Through these roles, she learned firsthand that membership in Alpha Chi Omega doesn't end when a member leaves the chapter house. "So many of the sisters at Northwestern saw Alpha Chi Omega as a club they belonged to for two or three years, and then they would leave their senior year and were no longer involved," Nancy said. "Alpha Chi Omega is a lifetime commitment and membership in this organization can help you in so many ways. Through alumnae chapters and clubs, Alpha Chis can make connections in just about any city or state to find jobs, housing, and friends." Nancy's closest friends are her sisters and through the years, she's come to understand the strength of their bond. "Your Gamma Iota sisters will always be there for you in good times and bad. By staying in touch, we keep that connection strong," Nancy said. "My connection with my sisters reminds me of the saying by Elbert Hubbard, 'A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.'" Living in Chicago makes it difficult for Nancy to see some sisters, but she's maintained relationships with many Gamma Iotas through annual reunions. She held her first reunion in 1989, but after attending a wedding with sisters in 2007, the group decided they needed to get together more often. That led to the next reunion of 60 sisters from across the country in 2008. As Nancy's two children, Joseph and Alexandra, finish high school, she hopes to return to Florida and become more involved with Gamma Iota. "I really appreciate all that Alpha Chi Omega has given to me in lifelong friendships, great college memories, job training through the office positions I have held, and the chance to give back through volunteer work at women's shelters and other Alpha Chi chapters," Nancy said. "I hope to get back to volunteering more of my time to Alpha Chi as my volunteer work with my children's schools has decreased."
