It recognizes "those alumni members whose achievements in their fields of endeavor have brought honor and prestige to the name of Sigma Chi." The Sigma Chi Fraternity has recognized more than 1,400 brothers since the award's inception at the 1935 Grand Chapter. Alumni in any profession, occupation, or philanthropic endeavor are eligible for consideration. Only living members of the Fraternity are considered for the award. R. Michael Carter '70 is primarily responsible for returning the Oral Roberts University NCAA Division I athletic program to national prominence. Under his leadership as athletic director, the Golden Eagles over the last 16 years have captured 9 Conference Commissioner's Cups, won 142 Conference Championships, and sent 79 teams to NCAA Tournaments in addition to multiple NIT and other post-season appearances. Mike has been awarded the Sigma Chi Fraternity's 1983 William T. Bringham Award and named the Tulsa Sports Commission's 2006 Sportsman of the Year. "I am humbled and honored to receive this award and to join the long list of very deserving Gamma Delta brothers who are Significant Sigs. The growing number is a tribute to the long-standing excellence of the Gamma Delta Chapter and the commitment of our active brothers and alumni. I am proud to be a small part of such a great Chapter and its outstanding achievements." Roger F. Blessing Jr. '51 enjoyed a distinguished career in architecture with extensive community involvement after college and service in the Army Corps of Engineers. As a founder and manager of Horner and Blessing Architects, he achieved acclaim from dozens of clients for successful completion of hundreds of commercial projects over 25 years prior to acquisition by Black & Veatch Engineers. In all situations, Roger Blessing continuously demonstrated a deep sense of personal responsibility and his personal motto "Always leave the woodpile higher than you found it."
