SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY • OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY • FALL 2014 Inside • Welcome, New Brothers ~ p. 3 • Thank You, Donors ~ p. 2 • Gamma Delta Receives National Recognition ~ p. 3 The Sig Scroll House Corporation Plans for Gamma Delta's Future Alumni, We Want to See You This Fall T he school year is off to a great start at Gamma Delta. The year kicked off for us at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, where the Chapter received another Peterson Significant Chapter Award, the House Corporation received another Gold Outstanding House Corporation Award, and Connor Davis '13 was a finalist for the International Balfour Award honoring the top undergraduate in the Fraternity. We recently welcomed a great new pledge class, which includes young men from all over the state and region with different temperaments, talents, and convictions. We hope you join us at the Sigma Chi tailgates this fall to enjoy some brotherhood before the football games. Thanks are in order for Roger Helms '86, John Clerico '63, Joe Porter '64, and Jim Kuykendall '87, who have all helped financially and with their time and energy. On a more granular note, I'd like to report that Sigma Chi has been actively involved in recent discussions with the OSU Greek system about modifying our recruitment process. Our Chapter is a proponent of reform and looking at a formal or deferred system. There doesn't appear to be any imminent change, but we believe that we can always improve upon the status quo. We will keep you updated on these issues and any other that the Chapter is dealing with in the future. SIGMA CHI PROVIDES TRUE FRIENDSHIPS Brian Jones '02 Encourages Alumni to Stay Connected B eing in a fraternity allows members to experience different personalities from a diverse group of men. After four years of living and working together for a common goal, brothers are tied together by their shared experiences in the chapter. "My memories from those days stand out more there than any other life experience. It was the time of my life, and it provided true friendships. I can't believe it was only four years," shared Brian Jones '02. Coming out of high school in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Brian already knew about the fraternities at Oklahoma State. Many of his close friends decided to go Greek and joined different chapters on campus, but Brian chose Sigma Chi because he was a legacy there and his father, Scott Jones '76, had good things to say about his own experi- ence at Gamma Delta. Brian said that his favorite memories from living in the Chapter house came from pledgeship; being in the same situation with his pledge brothers was an experience he will never forget. He advises undergraduates to make the most out of the time they have because it goes by fast. "Embrace every day and try not to take any day for granted. Get involved with different groups on campus and get out of your box. Those are the most rewarding things you can do." While Brian was in school, he discovered his passion when he worked on video analysis for OSU sports teams. After graduation, he had the opportunity to move to Colorado and work in the minor leagues. Today, Brian does video analysis for the Colorado Rockies, helping players improve and pro- vide strategy against opponents. Staying in contact with Fraternity brothers isn't always easy, but Brian encourages alumni to stay connected to the Chapter and to each other. "Because of everything during those four Alumni, giving has never been easier. Donate online today. http://sxgammadelta. kintera.org/donate (Continued on page 2)
