CHAMBER UPDATE ChaiSrpeaks th Chamber and my second year as your Chair- man. For the first article of this year I can think of no better topic than to congratulate local businesses, business owners, and our community for receiving well deserved recognition over the la J ou F st, Josh Collins, President of Huske Hardware House Brewing Company, has been named as the 2011 Vetrepreneur of the Year. The honor is given out annually to a veteran business owner who epito- last few weeks. Fir 2 mizes the qualities required for business success and inspires veteran busi- ness ownership through his/her accomplishments. Huske Hardware has long been a cornerstone to our revitalized downtown and it is great to see Josh, his business, and his team of employees get the national recognition that they deserve. Also, at the June Chairman’s Coffee Club, the Chamber announced Allstate Glass as a finalist for our Small Business of the Year Award. Allstate has been in business for 33 years and employs 28 people in 3 area locations. The BUSINESS Spotlight L INESS Celebrating Local Business as We Enter a New Fiscal Year uly marked the start of a ne uly ma a n w fiscal year for the Small Business Award was established this year to recognize small business owners who practices exemplify the mission of the Chamber. Our goal is to announce this quarterly and to have a yearly standalone event to honor small businesses and their contributions to our community. Congratula- tions to Allstate Glass and all their employees who are leading the way in small business success. I would also like to congratulate the Pope Community Council and the communities of Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Erwin, and Dunn for winning the 2011 Abilene Trophy. The Abilene Trophy is awarded annually to the civil- ian community that shows outstanding support to a nearby Air Mobility Command Base. The winner is determined annually by a selection group from the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee with the approval of the Air Mobility Command. Winning this award is a pres- tigious honor to our entire region and is a continued testament to the com- mitment our community makes to our service members and their families to “watch over those who watch over us”. Chair, Board of Directors Leadership Fayetteville coming soon! eadership Fayetteville is over 25 years old and has produced over 700 partici- pants. The program is designed to educate, chal- lenge, and motivate traditional and non-tra- ditional leaders to utilize their skills to work towards the betterment of our community. It is an investment of one day a month for 9 months. Leadership development is en- hanced by the nine sessions through hands on experience and information sessions given by some of our community’s most influential leaders. The program costs cover expenses for breakfast, lunch, snacks, speakers, program materials and graduation program. The benefits are huge: From CEOs to marketing and public rela- tions reps, there is something for everyone in this program. Held the SECOND Thursday of the month from September to May, Leadership Fayette- ville gives participants the opportunity to meet community leaders they may not have met on their own.
