THE CAL SIG ALPHA BETA CHAPTER OF SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY Fall 2014 T he Alpha Beta Chapter of Sigma Chi continues to enjoy great success. The large spring 2014 pledge class is the latest indication that our chapter is flourishing. Our members aren't just involved with Sigma Chi, they remain active on campus as well. Sigma Chi Spirit on Campus Many members are involved with The Daily Californian, Cal Camp, and various Cal sports teams and student groups. A number of members also act as campus ambassadors to various academic colleges within the university. The chapter also carries on the tradition of building a culture of philanthropy within Sigma Chi and the Cal family. The spirit of charity and generosity supports many groups, including Make a Smile Foundation, Huntsman Hospital of Utah, Children's Hospital of Oakland, and St. Jude. Thank You, Generous Alumni Our chapter's growth and accomplishments coincide with that of the university and, as such, the House Corporation continues to develop. Alumni volunteer their time to maintain the chapter house, ensure its financial stability, and create a safe, enjoyable home for our collegiate members. The House Corporation also strives to protect the rich history that our 101-year- old chapter house represents. We have worked vigorously to keep the house in compliance with the latest safety standards, have created warm, inviting living spaces, and have overseen a fair share of remodels and additions. Chapter Pleased with Summer Renovations This summer saw the renovation of the kitchen and laundry room, new flooring in the dining room and library, and painting of all common areas. As part of our summer renovation strategy, six bedrooms were upgraded with new floors, painted, and had electrical upgrades. Six sets of full-size bunk beds and three full-size loft beds were installed in these rooms to create living quarters for 15 men. To accommodate the growing live- in population in the house, a new bathroom was installed on the first floor, adjacent to the newly renovated ladies' reception room. The House Corporation pledges to continue summer renovations yearly with six more rooms scheduled for remodeling next year.
