Middle school students must have the Tdap shot, which is free at the Immunization Clinic at the Cumberland County Health Department, 1235 Ramsey St. The clinic’s hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Some of the shots for kindergartners are free. For more information about costs, call 433-3633. No appointment is needed for immunizations. Children who need physicals but do not have a doctor may schedule an appointment at the Child Health Clinic, which uses a sliding-fee scale based on income for those who do not have Medicaid, N.C. Health Choice or private insurance. Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have partnered to bring programming to the black-water, 460-acre cypress There are two upcoming events planned in the weeks ahead. Park rangers will lead an evening canoe tour on the pond on Aug. 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $10 and no experience is necessary to participate in this paddling adventure, however, it is helpful. Most of the canoes have three seats with backrests for the paddlers. For those who do not wish to paddle, a middle seat is available. All equipment is provided. You must be 8 years of age or older to ride in the canoe and 12 years old to paddle. Pre-registration at Clark Park Nature Center is required, and the deadline is July 29. On July 22 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., you can join the Clark Park rangers injured or kept. However, they will be well fed. Meet at Rhodes Pond near the boat ramp.
