AUGUST 6-12, 2014 UCW 17 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Halfway between Cincinnati, Ohio and Louisville, Ky., lies the small town of Carrollton. Home to a little more than 3,000 people, for Justin Mosteller, Jeremy Menard, Michael Loy and Jordan Bailey, it's the town that's shaped their brotherly bond, their music and their namesake. Justin and Jeremy live in Cincinnati, while Michael and Jordan call Louisville home. Carrollton provides a convenient meeting point for the band in between their shared hometowns and a respite from the demands of daily life. Aptly described as an accessible "Eagles meets Zac Brown Band" sound, the music of the band Carrollton sports a message both encouraging and emotionally connective. As their new song, "Holding On To You" hits the airwaves in and around Fayetteville this week, you'll find yourself with a renewed sense of hope in every line, especially in the promise that "…the sun is gonna rise again." The band's common identity lies in their shared beliefs and love for music. They are on the same page when it comes to family, faith and life's real source of contentment. "True joy is found in a life with Jesus," Jordan shares. "It doesn't matter what's going on here on earth, but our true joy is found in him alone." That belief united the group when they first started playing together five years ago, just as it does now. Among other fresh voices on the Fayetteville radio-scape these days, few will leave its haunting remnants long after the song fades than that of Lauren Daigle. Growing up in Lafayette, La., the singer-songwriter had the opportunity to immerse herself in the soulful surroundings brimming with an eclectic mix of zydeco, blues and Cajun music. These diverse sounds inform Daigle's colorful, distinct brand of worship music. At times both sultry and powerful, Lauren's new single "How Can It Be" gives the audience a glimpse of the path she took, both philosophically and musically. At the encouragement of her dad, she tried out for American Idol" and ended up being a contender in 2010 and 2012. The rigorous audition process proved to be a path of personal growth. Amidst the beckoning glow of Hollywood's enticing lights, Daigle says she began questioning the significance of it all, asking God, "'Why is this not mattering, honestly?' And He said, 'Because it's not worship.'" That became a turning point, a milestone where Daigle surrendered her vision of what her musical career was going to look like. "I was like, 'Okay God, how about this? How about You just take my heart and just change it to whatever you want?'" Daigle admits. Just what the answer to that question looks and sounds like is contained in the tracks of Lauren Daigle's new CD, How Can It Be, available on iTunes.
