AUGUST 6-12, 2014 UCW 13 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM The time has come; summer is coming to an end and school is starting. The nights are getting longer and quieter as the days get busier. Cooler days and something to do may be long awaited for some, but summer nights are without equal. Luckily, in Festival Park the end of summer evenings will not go quietly into the good night. On Aug. 15 the night will erupt with the sounds of music from two different bands and the people enjoy- ing them. What truly made Lynyrd Skynyrd such an incredible band, besides its unique sound, was its live performances. Recordings, while still great, don't hold a candle to a live show. The raw power, unique look and stage presence that they brought to every concert was legendary. Unfortunately, after 1977 there were no more opportunities to experience the one-of-a-kind concerts, until Tuesday's Gone was formed. This tribute band is a tribute in the truest sense of the term. It honors the great performers they loved by playing every note exactly as written. Nothing will ever be exactly like the original Lynryd Skynyrd, but Tuesday's Gone gets as close to bringing the stage presence and incredible songs to life as possible. Old Lynyrd Skynyrd fan or new, the night is sure to bring the old songs to life. For more information on the band, visit http://www.tuesdaysgonetribute.com. The second band performing on Aug. 15 is On The Border, an Eagles tribute band. This band originates from Charlotte, but has performed all over the nation. The band is family friendly, but incredibly energetic; its committed style makes every performance incredibly entertaining. The mu- sician selecting a single Eagles member to emulate is what sets this tribute band apart from the others. Each musician focuses on first perfecting the playing style, but also vocals of a single member. Then the seven come together as a more authentic representation of the Eagles. By making sure that each single part is perfect the whole is even better. Tracy Maples is Glenn Frey on guitar, Tim Giovenello is Joe Walsh on guitar, Bill Morgan is Don Felder on guitar, Mike Santoro is Don Henley on drums, Kenny Sparks is Timothy B. Schmidt on bass, Bob Orazi on keys and acoustic, and Andy Young on percussion. With the love that each band member has for the Eagles, and their dedication to perfecting the perfor- mances even the most fanatical of Eagles fans will be pleased. The gates open at Festival Park at 5 p.m. and music starts around 5:30 or 6 p.m. and con- tinues until 11 p.m. No outside food or drink is allowed into the park, but R.A. Jefferies, a local distributer of Budweiser and a sponsor of the event, will provide ice-cold beer and the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival sells snacks as a fundraiser for all of the events they sponsor during the year. Festival Park is located at 225 Ray Ave. Monies raised during Fayetteville After 5 are used to bring Fayetteville residents the best spring festival in the state.
