Play It Again With Second Tme Around by STEPHANIE CRIDER Up & Coming Weekly had a chat with Second Time Around recently. Here is a little bit about this local band. UCW: Who are your band member and what instruments do they play? STA: There are 15 members and they play brass, woodwinds, bass, accordion, and percussion. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? STA: The band started in Lumberton a little more than 20 years ago. UCW: How did the band get its name? STA: Most members of the band had played previously, so we decided to try it again UCW: How would you define your music? STA: Our music is traditional big band music, but with some modern songs as well. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? STA: All of the old big bands have influenced us, such as Ellington and Basie. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? STA: No, we don’t write our own. We mostly play old standards. UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? STA: The two words we would choose to describe our band are really enjoyable. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? STA: We hope to keep on having fun doing what we are doing and hope that others like it, too. UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? STA: I see us doing the same thing we are doing now, why change? UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the near future? STA: They can see us at a 4th Friday event or we some- times play at the Dorothy Gilmore Center. We are also available for special occasions such as wed- dings and reunions.
