6 JULY 9-15 2014 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM On ICL Now Accepting Applications The Institute for Community Leadership (ICL) is now accepting applications for its 11th year. The ICL is a joint community effort designed to provide local citizens the opportunity to participate in activities leading to community leadership. The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County are included in sessions that teach students about community issues and opportunities for service. The ICL also facilitates sessions with non-profit service agencies, arts and cultural agencies and schools and colleges to showcase organizations in the community and give citizens the opportunity to interact with community leaders. Benefits of participating in ICL include: Developing your opportunities to participate in key community decisions, discussing local issues and solutions with community leaders, finding volunteer leadership positions that best fit your interests, building relationships with others who are committed to self-and community-betterment and polishing your leadership abilities. For citizens interested in applying to the 11th year of ICL, there are several requirements, which include: Completion of an application, registration as a Cumberland County voter, sincere commitment to serve the community, agreement to attend each session and willingness to pursue an appointment to a governmental or community board or commission or other community leadership role. An ICL promo video will air on FayTV7 through the month of June, encouraging citizens to enroll in the 2014 ICL class. The promo video can also be viewed on www.faytv7.com, the City's YouTube website. The deadline to apply for ICL is Friday, July 11. To apply, citizens can log onto www.leadership4us.org. Hampton Retires Craig Hampton retired on July 1 with 29 years of service. His last day was June 30. Hampton retired as Special Projects Director. During his career, he also served as Purchasing Director and was in charge of Fleet, Building Maintenance, Engineering, Real Estate and Risk Management. Hampton orchestrated the building of Festival Park, N.C. Veterans Park, Freedom Trail and the Fayetteville Area Transportation & Local History Museum, to name a few projects. Thank You For Your Years of Service! Gardner Retires Kim Gardner retired on July 1 with 23 years of service. She served as a Senior Administrative Secretary in the Police Department. A ceremony was held for her June 27. City Manager Ted Voorhees congratulates Hampton on his years of service to the City. Lt. Todd Joyce presents Gardner with a shadow box to honor her. Police Chief Harold Medlock and former Police Chief Tom Bergamine share kind words about Gardner. Hampton was instrumental in the NC Veterans Park project. Winners announced September 17th!
