Saturday, June 18, 2011 – Daily News 7A Obituaries Twice threatened, one guy More details emerged Friday about a Los Molinos man who was arrested twice this week for threatening the same woman. Daniel Leroy Hamer, 48, of Los Molinos was arrest- FLORA MYRTIE (BERRY) ELLIS 1920 - 2011 and Viola B. Berry, died June 15, 2011 at Brentwood Skil- led Nursing and Rehab Facility in Red Bluff, CA. She was born in Winsow, ME on Feb. 06, 1920. She married Ray J. Ellis of Augusta, ME in 1941. They moved to Compton, CA in 1943, after Ray was wounded on Makin Island in WWII. After the war, they moved to the B bar K Ranch in Trinity Co., where they managed the ranch and entertained many Country and Western celebrities from the Los Angeles area. Ray later worked for the sawmill in Douglas City, CA Flora Ellis, 91 years of age, daughter of Ernest H. Berry ed first at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday and again at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 25200 block of Tehama Vina Road. He was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism after reportedly trying to run over his 54-year-old roommate, Sherry Wesley, and driving into her vehicle with his. After being booked into Tehama County Jail and then posting bail, Hamer returned to the shared resi- dence and threatened to kill Wesley, according to a sheriff’s press release. Wesley told deputies that Hamer spun his tires and sprayed gravel in the driveway as he left, the release said. As deputies spoke to her, they saw Hamer drive by again. Hamer was arrested a second time. The new charges included criminal threats, intimidating a witness and driving while intoxicated. Bail is set now at $155,000. -Andrea Wagner and she was a wife and mother for several years. After the mill burned, Ray became the Trinity County Veterans Service Officer and she cooked for many restaurants, the county hospital in Weaverville, CA and the Forest Service. When Ray retired, they moved to Wickenburg, AZ. where they lived for 23 years. Flora was an avid knitter, crocheter, and beader, making "pocket money" by selling her remarkable jewelry. After Ray passed away, she moved to Red Bluff, CA to be nearer to family. She is survived by three brothers, Theodore Berry of Cottonwood, CA, Milton (Maxine) Berry of Grangerville, ID, and Chester (Beverly) Berry of Shelly, ID. She is also survived by sons, Richard (Beth) Ellis of Grendale, AZ, Gary (Anita) Ellis of Marikina City, Phillipines, and a daughter, Linda (Lynn) Tackmier of Cot- tonwood, CA. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ray J. Ellis, brother, Ernest (Bud) Berry, sister Christine Gibbs, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Berry and Melba Berry, and brother-in-law, James Gibbs. She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Al was born in Fowlerville, MI and raised in Jackson, MI. As a young teen he ran his own bicycle repair shop and later got into cars which lasted him his entire life. On June 15, 1953 he married his childhood sweetheart Doris (Dody) Marie Vilminot and the had four children, two girls and two boys, Dawn, Kim, Cindy and Allen. Al passed away just an hour and a half shy of their 58th Wedding Anniversary. Al loved his family with all his heart and would gladly die for any one of them. Al was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. After the service he worked as a welder at Walker Manufacturing in Jackson, MI. In the early ’60’s he got into drag racing and later also enjoyed stock car racing, two sports he loved his whole life. He had many favorite drivers including Richard Petty and the John Force family. He opened his first Speed Shop, Speedcraft Automotive in Jackson, specializing in racing equipment. On New Year’s Day in 1968 while watching the Rose Bowl Game Al decided it was time for a warmer climate and so he moved his family to Southern California, set- tling first in Altadena and then moved to Glendale. In 1972 he moved his family to the San Fernando Valley to Lake View Terrace. He worked for Ford Dealerships and a Cadillac Dealership in Hollywood, downtown Los An- geles and Pasadena, CA as Body Shop and Parts Depart- ment Managers. In 1980 he opened two Auto Parts stores, Award Auto Parts, in Sun Valley, CA and continued rac- ing. He also liked taking his two sons and youngest daughter dirt bike riding in Gorman in Southern Califor- nia. In 1986 Al and Dody moved north to Red Bluff where a felon in possession of firearm and weapon. Bail was set at $350,000. In 1998 Al and Dody opened Sips ’n Snacks Ice Cream Parlor on Oak St. The shop was decorated in a 1950’s theme but had to be closed in 2000 after Al suffered a stroke and Dody broke her shoulder. After his retirement Al still enjoyed watching racing, MMA cage fighting, boxing and football, always cheering on his favorite Oakland Raiders. He also enjoyed other TV shows, playing Monopoly with Dody and going out to dinner with her. His favorite place to eat was M & M Ranch House on Antelope Blvd. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dody of Red Bluff, three children Dawn, Kim and Cindy, all of Red Bluff. Al is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was pre- ceded in death by his youngest son Allen in 1997. Chelsea Danielle Amanda Deuel of Red Bluff came out of the store nine minutes after witnesses called police and was identified as the child’s mother, accord- ing to a press release. Deuel was already wanted for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge when she approached officers in the parking lot. Deuel reportedly left the infant in a car seat alone inside a green 1995 Mercury Voyager, logs said. She was arrested on the warrant and charged with felony child endangerment. The infant was placed with Child Protective Ser- vices of Tehama County. The vehicle was towed.
