There will be homemade ice cream, desserts and music. Gospel concert Brother's Forever will be in concert with opener Son's of Light Quartet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at First Church of God, 1005 S. Jackson St., in Red Bluff. Brother's Forever is known for its power vocals and harmony. They travel nationally and tour year-round. Musical style ranges from So. Gospel to Inspirational Contem- porary gospel. The group’s members have powerful testimonies and have been nominated for many awards, including Favorite Male Group at the SGM Fan Fair Awards and Best Southern Gospel Group at the Christian Music Hall of Fame/Vision Awards. The group has performed at the National Quartet Convention. Church Without Walls Back for a third season, The Church Without Walls kicks off with a Father’s Day Celebration on June 19, and will run through Aug. 28. The church is a non-denominational worship ser- vice that meets at 2 p.m. in the Red Bluff River Park on Sundays. The entire community is encouraged to attend and worship as one body. This is a family event featuring the live band, “Life Signs”, performing weekly. Food, both spiritual and physical, will be provided and different ministries that reach out to the poor and hurting including ministries that address addiction, homelessness and unity in the body of Christ will be highlighted. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and spend the day at the park. If you are a church attendee already, come and fellowship with the body in a church atmosphere that truly has no walls. Starting in the mail room A wealthy man who had great power desired to teach is son the busi- ness. He wanted him to be the kind of boss that anyone could come to with a problem. He knew if he start- ed his son’s career by giving him a job as an executive, his son would more than likely become arrogant and miss the wealth of ideas that flow from satisfied employees. So the first day of the son’s career began in the mail- room. Later the son learned how to be a mechanic and his hands became stained with brake fluid and oil. Dr. Shirley Fay GodTalk God did the same thing for us. He placed mankind under the law, as a tutor, so that we would recognize how weak we are (Galatians 3:19-24). Once Jesus came, the tutor was dis- missed so that we no longer live under the law. We no longer offer animal sacrifices as they did in the Old Testa- ment. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. Through faith in him, we can have an intimate relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:18). But as people in the 21st century, we never experienced what it was like to give animal sacrifices. So how do we learn our need for his grace? We learn it through difficult times. James tells us that trials (difficult When we depend on God to bring us through our circumstances, he brings us out in better spir- itual shape than when we went into the trial.That teaches us that God loves us enough to bring us through victoriously. Then when we face a new and different situ- ation, we remember that God brought us through the last one and we then have confidence that he will bring us through this new one. So through this process we learn hope and love. Anyone who has faced very diffi- cult circumstances knows that fear and uncertainty can begin to haunt our decision making process. It feels as though if we make the wrong decision everything will get much worse. We want someone to tell us what to do. We certainly do not want things to become worse than what they already are. James 1:5-8 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Then comes the caveat; "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." This does not mean God is up there looking down saying, "OK, if you doubt I am not giving you anything." James is saying when we are constant- ly doubting or second guessing our decisions we become like waves in a storm. One minute we are headed in one direction and headed in the oppo- site direction the next minute. Our life boats are being tossed all over the place. We are "double minded." We can’t make up our mind so that even if God gives us wisdom, we doubt it so much that we are paralyzed and unable to make any decision at all. Be confident then, that if you have asked God for wisdom and you have sought wise counsel, that God is directing your decision (Proverbs 2:3- 12). Go forward with confidence. God is certainly able to make all things work out for your benefit, even if you make a mistake (Romans 8:27-28). Festival of the Sun Ecuadorian celebration Coming up on Sunday, June 26, the Red Bluff Vineyard Christian Fellowship will be hosting the Festival of the Sun Celebration, an Ecuadorian dinner and silent auction. Festival of the Sun is a holiday celebrated each year by the indigenous people of Ecuador. The weeklong celebra- tion honors the Inca people with food, dance, music, gift- giving, family fun and other activities that show their appreciation for the abundance of the upcoming harvest season. The public is invited to join in the festival through Ecuadorian themed food, decorations and traditional music. Wear your favorite Panama hat or any straw hat. This event grows in popularity every year and seating is limited. Advanced tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for chil- dren younger than 10 and $25 for couples. The funds raised go to support the work at For His Chil- dren, an orphanage in Quito and Latacunga, Ecuador. There will be a closed bidding art auction, where the public may purchase one of several Festival of the Sun themed pieces created by the children of the Vineyard. This artwork has been professionally framed by The Big Pic- ture, a locally owned studio. A raffle for $500 in gasoline or groceries will be held. Tickets for the raffle are available now. The winner will be drawn at the end of the evening on June 26. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Need not be present. Guests will enjoy a meal, including appetizers, a fresh spinach and strawberry salad, creamy potato soup, tangy almond chicken kebabs, rice and cinnamon grilled bananas with chocolate and ice cream for dessert. Auction items include numerous themed baskets sup- plied by local businesses and supporters, a professionally framed, autographed photo of Peyton Manning, artwork by several area artists and tickets to several area attractions such as Water Works Park and Shasta Caverns. Mission team members will share stories and photos. Clark and Melinda Vaughn moved to Quito in 1990. They have 50-60 children under their care, most of them infants and toddlers.
