PAgE 4 page 4 The undergraduates' hard work this semester paid off in grades, intramurals, and philanthropy. M y name is Doug Brown and I am the newly elected President of SigEp Kansas Beta. I have always had a passion for SigEp and the men of this Chapter have continued to build on our tradition of excellence, which has made my job very enjoyable thus far. we have broken a lot of new ground in the past six months and are very pleased with our recent success. This past semester has been very busy for us and April in particular was very exciting. we initiated the fall pledge class, held our annual benefit concert, Sunset revival, and held our Dad's weekend. On April 4 we were very excited to welcome 24 new brothers into our Chapter. Their hard work and dedication make them great new additions to this organization. we are very excited to see the future successes they will have in this Chapter. I would like to especially thank Brother Austin Rickabaugh '14 for all of his hard work and patience during the new member development process. Austin was instrumental in the development of the 24 new brothers and we would not be the successful organization we are today without his efforts. In April we held our annual benefit concert, Sunset revival. The concert featured several local acts and a rising hip-hop artist by the name of Futuristic. The concert saw a great turnout of nearly 300 people. More importantly, we were able to raise about $1,000 for the wounded warrior Project. It was great seeing all the hard work of our executive board and brothers put in pay off. I would like to especially thank Brothers Tim Turner '16, Luke Burgett '16, and Alexis Nevarez '16 for all of their hard work. The concert would not have been a success without all of their diligence and efforts. we held our Dad's weekend at the end of April. The event is one we look forward to every year and it is always full of entertainment. Dad's weekend is a great opportunity for dads to spend some quality time with their sons and to experience some of the good old days. we started Saturday off with a meet and greet at the Chapter house. After that we held a tailgate in the west parking lot for the spring football scrimmage. After the scrimmage concluded the Mom's Club held an auction at rusty's Bar & grille in Aggieville. The auction went very well and we were able to raise a large amount of money for the Mom's Club, which directly benefits our Chapter. The Mom's Club has been instrumental in delivering an enriched experience for all of the brothers and we cannot thank them enough for all of their efforts. I would like to especially thank Marita Soucie, housemother Jean reiter, and Debbie Brown for all of their time and efforts. The Chapter morale is at an all-time high and we are very motivated to continue to build off the tradition of excellence at Kansas Beta. Our formal was held on May 3, which ended the semester on a high note. we are always interested in meeting and hearing from alumni. If you are in town please stop by the house. we would love to meet you. Fraternally, Doug Brown '14 Chapter President (913) 314-8408 / ddoug@ksu.edu chapter House Morale at All-time High Recruitment Requirements Changing R ecruitment for the new member class of fall 2014 is going very well. when we took over as the new recruitment team this semester we knew we wanted to change some of the requirements the potential new members had to meet before we gave them a bid to join. Some of the new requirements are having at least a 3.0 high school gPA and being involved with something outside of school like a club or sport. we thought this was important as we move forward as a Chapter and try to recruit the best men we possibly can. we now have more potential new members visit on weekend nights when we don't have actual recruitment events so they can get a true feel of what it feels like to be a SigEp. we want to make sure that everyone we recruit has the traits to become a balanced man once they join and we give them the tools and knowledge to be successful. we started recruiting and making phone calls at the start of this semester to get a head start. we have had four recruitment events which have been very successful. Some of the events include the worst basketball tournament, wildcats baseball game, and Sunset revival. Sunset revival has been the most successful event, just like it has in the past. The concert was at our house this year which really helped us show potential new members what our Fraternity is capable of. we have 12 potential new members who have signed with us for fall 2014, and we have nine bids out that haven't been accepted yet. we have a couple more events planned including a royals game and a sand volleyball tournament this summer. We hope to hit our goal of 20-25 new members with these summer events. As always, we value the recruitment recommendations of our alumni. If you know of any future SigEp balanced men, please contact us with your recommendations.
