K ansas Beta received the first check of $5,000 for the building campaign in April 2004 from Greever Allen '31. Ten years and hundreds of checks later, a total of $2,409,544 has been received from many Kansas Beta alumni, friends, and supporters of the Fraternity, which demonstrates that they recognized the importance of securing the future of the Kansas Beta Chapter. The total cost of the project was slightly over $3 million. Donor payments were received over a period of 10 years (majority of the payments were made in the first six years). The current loan balance in July 2014 was approximately $779,000. This loan is on a 15-year repayment schedule. Monthly payments of principal and interest are a part of the current Chapter budget. I wish to thank the Chapter for the opportunity to serve in the fundraising and record-keeping duties over the past 10 years. It was a joy to make contact with hundreds of SigEps, both in renewing old acquaintances and getting to know new brothers over the phone. Doing so took a great deal of time and effort, but it was well worth it. Please note that during the 10 years receiving hundreds of checks from donors, none were ever returned for insufficient funds! The Fraternity needs a new individual to volunteer to take over my fundraising duties as I have reached the age of 81 and it is time to step down. Thanks Again, Duane M. Across all 26 fraternities, Sigma Phi Epsilon finished sixth with an all-Chapter gPA of 3.22. The men have done a solid job of focusing on their academics while maintaining their heritage as a well- balanced Fraternity by finishing strong in multiple intramural sports. New Furniture, Flooring on List for House Updates The last day of finals concluded May 16, with most men moving out by the 17th. Initial reports are that the men did the best job in the last five years with regard to having the house cleaned out and ready for the normal summer renovations and repairs. Among the changes planned for this summer, we plan to move the large study table currently occupying part of the living room to the library. In its place we will purchase new sofas and chairs to return the living room to the social gathering place it was intended to be. we're also looking to complete the space with tables and a TV. we'll call this phase one of some needed updating and will look to replace carpet in the rooms and halls in the next year or two. we are reviewing options besides carpeting that might prove more durable and easier to keep clean. As we look to the fall semester, we should have a significant number of upperclassmen living in the house which points toward a new member recruiting class in the range of 24-26 members. Our estimates are that we'll be close to our optimal capacity of 67-68 men, which certainly helps with finances. The upperclassmen leadership is also a plus. As a reminder, this year we were under 60 living in the house. A focus area beginning in the fall is to expand and more fully implement the Balanced Man ideals. while we have adopted and are utilizing many facets of the Balanced Man Program, we still have not fully embraced other important aspects. As the AVC continually stresses to the men, the Chapter house belongs to all of us, and we should all have our share of contributions with regard to taking care of it and sharing in the range of work responsibilities. A meeting with the members of the executive board in early May challenged them to develop a more encompassing shared structure in the fall. Visit www.kstatesigep.com! A second area that we need to improve is the content and appearance of our website. If you haven't been there before, check it out at www. kstatesigep.com and take a virtual tour of the house. Our goal is to have this site be much more robust and current so that as alumni you can return frequently to keep up with all that is happening, no matter where you reside. The fall semester will be here before you know it, and with it a new member class that is eager to experience all the brotherhood and personal development that we've known as members ourselves. One day they'll realize that it doesn't end when your college career concludes and that it stays with you a lifetime. If you've not been back to the house in awhile but are able to get to Manhattan, make it a point to stop by and introduce yourself and take a look around. we have a house to be proud of, and good men residing in and contributing to it. They'd love to meet you!
