Chris Bosh made a go-ahead jumper from the baseline with 39.6 seconds left and the Heat held on for an 88-86 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night for a 2-1 lead in the NBA Nadal beats Federer again PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal is still better on clay than Roger Federer, beating the player with the most Grand Slam titles for the fourth time in the French Open final. Nadal equaled Bjorn Borg’s record of six titles at Roland Garros and earned his 10th career major championship with the 7-5, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-1 victory Sunday, dropping to his knees and covering his face after Federer sent a forehand long on match point. ‘‘To win this final against one of the best players in the world and in history is something which is really fantastic for me,’’ said Nadal, who will keep his No. 1 ranking. ‘‘It’s one of my most beautiful dreams.’’ Nadal improved his record at Roland Garros to 45-1, and to 17-8 against Federer. In Grand Slam finals, Nadal is 6-2 against his main rival. ‘‘As it often happens, he is the best on clay,’’ Federer said. ‘‘He proved it once again.’’ Nadal was playing to Federer’s backhand on Court Philippe Chatrier, but even the 16-time Grand Slam cham- pion’s forehand was off. He committed 56 unforced errors in the match, while Nadal had only 27. In the break of service that finally broke Federer for good, the Swiss missed an easy forehand, double-faulted and then put a forehand into the net. That gave Nadal a 3-1 lead in the fourth set, and enough to hold on for victory. Nadal is the second youngest man behind Borg to reach 10 major titles. The Spaniard also is about six months younger than Federer was when he won his 10th. Federer looked like the one to beat early in the match, breaking Nadal’s first service game and later holding a set point while leading 5-2. But the turning point came on that very point, when Fed- erer tapped a backhand drop shot that landed just outside the line. The 2009 champion argued his case, but the chair umpire, off his perch and jogging across the court to inves- tigate, ruled the ball was out. Stricker holds on to win the Memorial DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — The toughest test Steve Stricker faced Sunday at the Memorial was when he wasn’t even playing golf. With a three-shot lead and just more than five holes remaining, Stricker had to spend two hours in the club- house waiting out a storm delay, leaving him plenty of time to imagine what could go wrong. Never mind that he played the front nine in 20-under par, including a 30 in the final round. Or that on his last hole before the delay, he saved par with a bunker shot behind the 12th hole that Jack Nicklaus said was the best shot he hit all week. ‘‘It’s hard not to think about those last closing holes and just the unknown,’’ Stricker said. ‘‘You don’t know what’s going to happen with the other players, you don’t know how you’re going to perform under the stretch, under the gun. At that point, you just want to get it done.’’ The way it ended was no surprise at all. Stricker faced two clutch par putts down the stretch — from 15 feet on No. 16 and from 7 feet on No. 17 — and poured them both in the center of the cup. He closed with a 4-under 68 for a one-shot victory over Matt Kuchar and Brandt Jobe to finally find the win- ning formula at Muirfield Village. ‘‘I feel good when I’ve got the putter in my hand,’’ Stricker said. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Ryan Vogelsong, the one-time mop-up man, has found a home with the San Fran- cisco Giants. He’s throwing as if he wants to make it permanent. Vogelsong pitched eight fantastic innings and Andres Torres singled home the tiebreaking run, leading the Giants over the Colorado Rockies 2-1 Sunday in a series highlighted by dominant pitching. ‘‘Until this year I was always the guy who came in when the game was lopsided either way and usually when we were behind by a lot,’’ Vogelsong said. ‘‘To be counted on to win games, it’s awesome, just a great feeling. It’s a role you need to do and not just hang out and be a sideshow.’’ Freddy Sanchez also drove in a run for the Giants, who won their fourth in five games. Miguel Tejada had two hits. Chris Iannetta homered for the Rockies, who are 4-12 in their last 16 games and have not won back-to-back games since May 16-17. Vogelsong (4-1) matched his career high with eight innings, giving up a run on four hits. He walked one and struck out seven. He’s allowed one run or less in each of his past six starts. Brian Wilson worked the ninth for his 17th save in 19 chances. Until this year, Vogelsong hadn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2006. He spent three years in Japan and shuffled between three organiza- tions last season. ‘‘It was a long road for him but he never gave up,’’ Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ‘‘He kept grinding to get back to the major leagues. That’s one of the best stories I’ve seen since I’ve been in the game.’’ With Barry Zito beginning his minor league rehab assignment in San Jose on Monday night, the rotation could get a little clogged up. ‘‘Voggy is not going anywhere,’’ Bochy said. ‘‘He’s going to pitch every fifth day. We might have to get a little creative here. Just ask the Oakland Athletics. The A’s had a four-game win- ning streak when the Yankees visit- ed last week. After being swept at home, Oakland limped to Boston and were swept again in a three- game series, finishing with a 6-3 loss Sunday. ‘‘We ran into a couple of good teams and they beat us up pretty good,’’ second baseman Mark Ellis said. ‘‘I feel like we can compete. We just need to find a way to do it.’’ Oakland starter Brett Anderson (3-6) struggled for the second straight game, allowing five runs and nine hits in five innings. He gave up nine earned runs over 5 1-3 innings in his previous start, a 10-3 loss to New York on Tuesday. ‘‘Today was pretty much terrible. It’s pretty much as bad a job as I can do,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘It was really frustrating. You want to go as deep as you can to give your guys some rest. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. was charging again, hoping that this time he’d come out on top in a frantic late fuel-mileage battle. But leader Brad Keselowski stretched his tank perfect- ly Sunday to win the Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway — and extend Earnhardt’s winless streak to 106 races. Keselowski led the final nine laps for his second Sprint Cup victory in 66 races, and the first for Penske Racing since Kurt Busch last year in the Coca-Cola 600. Keselowski also had a surprise 2009 victory at Talladega in only his fifth career Cup start. ‘‘There are some secrets to it and I just maximized them all. I had plenty (of fuel) left,’’ Keselowski said. Earnhardt appeared set to make a late charge on Keselowski. That push never came — though Earnhardt did move up to third in the standings and is just one point behind Jimmie Johnson. For the second week in a row in a fuel-mileage race, Earnhardt came up just short. He ran out of gas near the finish in Charlotte and wound up seventh. ‘‘Anytime you win a fuel mileage race you’ve done something as a driver,’’ Earnhardt said. ‘‘We don’t know what we’re doing really trying to save gas or how much we’re saving. But (Keselowski) had a hand in it.’’ Denny Hamlin was third, followed by Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, who holds a 40-point lead over Johnson. Johnson fought from 31st position and finished sev- enth. Polesitter Busch led 152 laps and finished ninth. He had to stop for gas as the leader with 10 laps left. ‘‘I was all smiles. I felt the groove again, to lead the race. It was great.
