FIELD HOCKEY By RICH GREENE DN Sports Editor CORNING — As she gets ready to enter her sophomore year, Kaitlyn Huntley has her whole future in front of her. And it’s a future college field hockey coaches across the nation already have their eyes on. The Corning Lady Cardinals goalie has received an invitation to play in this summer’s 2011 National Futures Championship in Virginia Beach, Va. A pool of around 5,00 poten- tial Futures athletes were whit- tled down to 800. Those players will be divided up into teams and compete at the championships June 25-30. Huntley said she has some nerves about what awaits her. “I’ve never done anything this big before. I’ve never been out of state for a tournament before,” she said. Around 100 college coaches are expected to attend the tourna- ment. Kaitlyn knows about the pos- sibility of playing field hockey in college. Her sister Tristan, is the start- ing goalie at Trine University in Angola, Ind. “If it wasn’t for her, I proba- bly wouldn’t be playing today,” Kaitlyn said of her sister’s influ- ence. To help raise money for Hunt- ley’s trip across the country for the National Futures Champi- onship, a fundraiser car wash will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 at the Napa Auto Parts parking lot in Corning. Girls 10-15 who are interested in playing the sport can attend Corning’s Field Hockey Camp June 6-9. The cost is $30 if registered before June 2 and $35 if later. For information call Corning field hockey coach Teresa Lamb at 824-7400. Then Wade found his groove at the perfect time, and the Miami Heat, the team put together solely to win championships, moved one emotional win away from the NBA finals. James scored 35 points, Bosh added 22 and the Heat overcame an early 11-point deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 101-93 on Tuesday night, taking a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals. Wade went scoreless for nearly 33 straight minutes, before making a jumper with 2:08 left to help Miami keep the lead. And after James made a contest- ed jumper with 29 seconds left for a six-point lead, Wade soared to block Derrick Rose’s layup from out of almost nowhere on the next Chicago possession. At long last, it was over. Bosh scored the first four points of overtime, and the Heat never trailed in the extra session.
