2A Daily News – Wednesday, May 25, 2011 Community people&events Eirish graduates Elsa Martinez-Bautista You Matter Let me just say, and many of you will understand when I do, that Elsa Martinez-Bautista is the whole enchilada, pun intended. Elsa is truly an inspiring person to me. She has been on my mind for a long time and the truth of the matter is that I had a hard time honing in on what I wanted to highlight about her. You see, Elsa is that well rounded type of women who lives her life so well that you can’t help but be awestruck about her. I have often said that the You Matter series is a divine interven- tion of God working through me to tell others that they matter. Every- one matters for something and I have the privilege to point out the obvious to unsuspecting people who live in or near our communi- ty. Now it is Elsa’s turn. Courtesy photo Buddy Eirish, Sacramento, and Donna Eirish, Los Molinos, are proud to announce the graduation of their daughter, Jennifer Eirish, from Chico State University. A Red Bluff High School graduate, Jennifer achieved the Dean's List and graduated with honors. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology with a focus on women’s studies, and a minor in sociology. Jennifer is a member of Psi Chi Honor Soci- ety and Golden Key International Honor Society. She received her diploma at the May 22 Commencement with her two young sons, Jonathan Reid and Brennen Edward, watching from the audience. Also attending from Bend, Ore., were her grandmother, Mary Winter, and her Aunt Diane and Uncle Dennis Chapman. SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Setting it straight –––––––– It is the policy of the Daily News to correct as quickly as possible all errors in fact that have been published in the newspaper. If you feel a factual error has been made in a news story, call the news department at 527-2153. I could tell you that Elsa mat- ters because she fiercely loves her family. I could tell you that Elsa matters because she is the best enchilada and salsa maker that ever was. I could tell you that Elsa matters because she has amazing life-long friendships that sustain her and make her an example of how to be a friend. I could espouse about Elsa’s community focus and how she is often involved in the communi- ty to support anyone and everyone. Maybe I should tell you about how Elsa lives a life that is focused on other people and their success, even at the expense of her own happi- ness and convenience. Every single one of the reasons I listed is a col- umn unto itself. Many of you live just like Elsa, but some of you reading don’t. Sometimes other people need examples like Elsa to give them a road map of how to behave. Faydra Rector Elsa matters because she is a kind spirit in a world where a lot of people have forgotten that kind- ness is the ambassador of love. Elsa exudes selflessness. Whether she is making dozens of enchila- da’s for the community, a benefit or for friends. Whether she is organizing and participating in a community event or whether she is posting yet another inspirational statement on Facebook; she is kind. Elsa faces struggles and challenges, yet she always chooses the high road. Elsa feels pain, has experienced life’s setbacks, yet she always chooses to look at the bright side. It is a con- scious effort to choose the good over the bad. Be like Elsa. Be kind You Matter when faced with hate. Find a niche in life where you can be suc- cessful. Give back to the community you live in. Inspire others with the way you live.
