pg. 5 Alpha Gamma t his year has been one of great success in terms of recruitment for Alpha Gamma. Having been approved for a charter in July 2013, we saw our first pledge class as vital for ensuring our place at the University. There were several learning experiences we took away from participating in fall recruitment— what many alumni remember as formal rush— such as gathering supplies and the more complex issue of where we would be presenting Chi Psi since we do not have a Lodge. We executed the first round of recruitment on our Fraternity Row lot using tents. Fortunately, the elements worked in our favor and we completed the first round successfully. For the following two rounds, we reserved the beautifully restored Bryant Hall on University Circle, formerly known as the Fine Arts building. We gave bids to outstanding gentlemen who were looking for something more than just a big four-year party, and many of these have already proven themselves as leaders on this campus, which will help Alpha Gamma's efforts for years to come. Spring recruitment required a little more learning than the formal recruitment process. It was the first time we would be recruiting on our own without support from Central Office staff. The most difficult task during the spring was learning to delegate responsibilities to other brothers, and keeping in mind that we must be recruiting every day! We had to create individual events, including a weekly lodge ball event for potential new members, as well as a couple of cookouts. This created an environment where the potential members felt welcome and had the opportunity to meet some of the brothers. Throughout the process, we wanted potential new members to get to know the majority of the brothers before they even realized that they were being recruited, so when we extended bids in the spring it seemed like second nature for them to join Chi Psi. In light of the quality of men we have recruited so far, it's clear this approach is working. And this is where YOU as alumni come in. Because we are always in recruitment mode and rely more heavily on recommendations for prospects than in the past, we need your recommendations for gentlemen who can carry on the high standards that our newly chartered Alpha has set.
