The Gamman pg. 4 o n April 10, Brother Logan Dodson '14 received the prestigious Taylor Medal, the University of Mississippi's highest honor. Logan graduated from Ole Miss in May with a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics. Logan earned an associate's degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia before entering Ole Miss. He graduated from Homewood High School in suburban Birmingham, where he played football and baseball. In addition to serving as #2 of Alpha Gamma, Logan was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and was an Ole Miss ambassador. He was on the Chancellor's List every year and received a Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, a Chi Psi Fraternity scholarship, a Lyceum scholarship, a transfer leadership scholarship, and two math education scholarships. Taylor Medalists are required to have a GPA of 3.9 or above, senior standing, and at least 18 hours in their major. The Marcus Elvis Taylor Memorial was founded in June 1904 by Dr. William A. Taylor in memory of his son, an honored Ole Miss alumnus of the class of 1871. Students are nominated by a faculty committee to be recognized for "meritorious scholarship and deportment" and the Undergraduate Council and Council of Academic Administrators give formal approval for recognition. Less than one percent of Ole Miss undergraduates are awarded the medal. Logan joins four other Alpha Gamma Brothers who have earned the Taylor Medal: Dr. John "Vic" Daniel '72, Dr. Robert B. Anderson '79, Christopher M. McNeill '98, and William Scott Kitchens '03. These hours can be obtained by attending a range of Greek philanthropy events and by volunteering at off-campus charities and on-campus service events. This semester we have had representatives at Delta Gamma's Milk and Cookies event, Alpha Omicron Pi's spaghetti dinner, Kappa Delta's paintball tournament, Phi Psi's Final Four Basketball Tournament, Alpha Omicron Pi's Run for Roses, Chi Omega's crawfish dinner, and we have made a donation to Phi Mu's Bonnamu (battle of the bands). More than half the Alpha volunteered at the campus sustainability competition, while other Brothers donated blood and volunteered at the local animal shelter. Meanwhile, we have chosen Habitat for Humanity as our own lead philanthropy, which allows us to get involved and be hands on beyond hosting events on campus and donating money. We have scheduled dates during the coming months to help build homes for the disadvantaged in the Oxford area. We also raffled off a beautiful Renaldo bracelet with all the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. Another event in the planning stages is Song Fest, where fraternities and sororities engage in a talent competition. The proceeds will benefit Habitat and other chapters' favorite charities.
