the Exciting
Campaign news
inside!
U
pon first meeting the Chi Psis at Ole Miss,
Dr. Ben Silliman '86 knew he was among
a group of real, outstanding gentlemen. He
credits his choice of joining Chi Psi
as one of his first great life choices.
Alpha Gamma made Ben into the man
he is today. The education and social
skills he acquired were invaluable.
He entered as an introvert and left as
an extrovert.
Ben realizes now how unique his
experiences were and how those
experiences aided in his development
as a young man. Many of his best college
memories come from the time spent getting to
know his Gamma brothers, serving as #4, and
being accepted in "a rather heightened social
atmosphere at Ole Miss." Chi Psi is one of the
highlights of Ben's life and is a personal sense
of pride that has enriched him since graduation.
After graduation, Ben began work
as a CPA and is now a professor in
accounting and taxation at St. John's
University. He mainly teaches gradu-
ate courses in business combinations,
governmental accounting, intermedi-
ate accounting, and individual tax
planning. He has served as a mentor
to many students. He has also served
as a leader in several capacities, most
recently as associate dean.
Ben is grateful for all that Gamma has given
him and hopes that many other young men at
Chi Psi get the same opportunities he had as an
undergraduate. He believes this campaign will
keep the legacy and spirit of Alpha Gamma alive
and hopes others will invest in this opportunity
to positively impact so many young men in the
future. "I already see the positive effects with all
the Brothers involved, giving so much of their
time, money, and energy to this effort," he said.
Ben lives in New York City and spends most
of his free time writing articles and is currently
working on a book proposal. He is very active
in St. John's University activities, the Peter J.
Tobin College of Business in New York City,
has been voted Professor of the Year four
times, and received the PricewaterhouseCoopers
Faculty Fellowship Award in 2011. He can be
reached at sillimab@stjohns.edu.
