8A Daily News – Friday, May 20, 2011 Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Hagen named to Spring Dean's List LONGVIEW, Texas — Aaron Hagen of Red Bluff was recognized for outstanding academic accomplishments by being named to the LeTourneau University Dean's List for the Spring 2011 semester. Hagen achieved a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester. LeTourneau University is a nationally recognized interdenomina- tional Christian university based in Longview, Texas. Andreini named to OSU honor rolls STILLWATER, Okla. - Red Bluff was represented among the 4,045 students were named to the 2011 spring honor rolls at Okla- homa State University in Stillwater, including 1,411 students who received all “A” grades and were named to the President’s Honor Roll. Emily Marie Andreini, a 2009 graduate of Red Bluff Joint Union High School was named to the list. Full-time undergraduate students who completed six or more hours with a grade point average of 4.00 were placed on the Presi- dent’s Honor Roll, and students with a grade point average of 3.50 or higher with no grade below a “C” were placed on the Dean’s Honor Roll. Oklahoma State University is a modern land-grant system that cuts across disciplines to better prepare students for success. The Tehama County Department of Educa- tion joined thousands of educators across the country in recognizing substitute teachers as part of SubWeek, the National Substitute Teacher Recognition Week. "We’d like to take this opportunity to recog- nize 18 outstanding substitute teachers that were nominated by their school districts for their performance and dedication," said Larry Champion, superintendent of schools. "Many members of our community take on this chal- lenge as substitute teachers and they deserve our recognition and appreciation." Champion presented each honoree with a certificate of appreciation and thanked them for their service. SubWeek, is a national effort to recognize the approximately 270,000 men and women that fill in for absent permanent teachers every day in the United States. According to the Sub- stitute Teaching Institute at Utah State Univer- sity, research shows that about one full year of a child’s K-12 education is taught by substitute teachers. Tingley provided an activity for students and parents to learn about the a-g college requirements and encouraged them to begin thinking about their future. She answered questions about local area high schools related to college requirements.
