Bang! POW! Tehama Tracker RODEO With all eight rodeos in the books, Casey Meroshnekoff has claimed the District 1 All-Around title. Meroshnekoff was first in bareback riding, bull riding, third in boys cutting and along with Red Bluff’s Brandi Anthony tied for first in team roping. Red Bluff’s Chelsea Bushnell was named rookie all- around cowgirl with Cottonwood’s Emily Clendenen as the reserve, while Wyatt Brown was named reserve rookie cow- boy. Clendenen finished second in barrel racing and fourth in girls cutting. Red Bluff’s Danny Brown was the top steer wrestler, with Cole Robinson and Logan Robinson tied for third. Red Bluff had another top finisher in pole bending, as Allie Jordan took the year-end title. Madison McCarley and Katy Andrews, both from Cottonwood, finished third and fourth and Red Bluff’s Madisen Gomes was fifth. Cottonwood had the top three barrel racers in Anna Doyle, Clendenen and Andrews. Anthony was fifth. Spartans slug out 13 1st inning runs on Senior Night BASEBALL By RICHGREENE DNSports Editor The Spartans erupted for 13 runs in the first inning, Tuesday, then cruised from there to beat visiting Paradise 14- 4 in six innings on Senior Night. Red Bluff sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning, collecting nine hits, five walks and a hit bats man along the way. When the inning was finally over, Paradise was on their third pitcher of the ball game and Red Bluff had a 13- 1 lead. The inning started with Mitch Robison and senior Jordan Fox taking back-to-back walks. Senior Gerald Baker then hit an RBI single followed by another walk to Modesto Ramirez. With the bases loaded senior Joel Duggins ripped a single to score two more runs. After a pitching change Robby Lasby drew a walk. Followed by back- to-back RBI singles from senior Storm Lewis and Jorge Caldera. Red Bluff ran into their first out of the inning on Caldera’s hit. Taylor Figgs followed with a walk then Robison came back up to the plate and was plunked to load the bases. Fox knocked in a couple more runs with a single and Baker reloaded the bases with his second single of the inning. Ramirez drove in two more runs when Paradise’s center fielder slipped. Duggins followed with a double to knock in another run. Following another pitcher change, Red Bluff grounded into their second out, but Lewis put a 13th run on the board with one last double. Paradise got three runs back in the top of the second off of a trio of triples with two outs and their pitcher Kyle Gilbertson held Red Bluff scoreless until the sixth inning. Red Bluff got the 10-run lead they needed to force a mercy stoppage after Calder singled to open the inning. Senior Richard Penne came in to pinch run and took second on a delayed steal and then third on a wild pitch. Robison then drove him home to end it. Brown placed second in saddle bronc and Red Bluff’s Pierce McClelland was fourth. Brown was fifth in tie down roping and Red Bluff’s Brady Carlon finished fourth. Cottonwood’s Austin Pope was the fourth best team rop- ing header and McCarley was the fifth best heeler. The State Finals are set for June 12-17 in Bishop. GOLF Red Bluff finished just two shots out of first place at the Weed Invite, but fell all the way back to third place on a tiebreaker, Thursday. The hosts fired a 409 to win the invitational. Red Bluff and Redding Christian both shot 411s, but the tiebreaker of using a team’s sixth score fell in Redding Christian’s favor. Eagle Point shot a 431, West Valley 514 and Mercy fired a 533. Anderson, Ashland and Los Molinos also competed, but didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for team recognition. Weed’s Jake West had the individual low at 72. Followed by Red Bluff’s Daniel Frantz at 73. Red Bluff’s Jordan Chapin had a career best 80, Peter Mitzel shot 81 and Justin Martinson an 83. Mercy was led an 82 from Wyatt Froome and an 83 from Steven Rodriguez. Zach Mathues led Los Molinos with a 99. “I’m proud of how the team has come around this year,” Red Bluff coach Elena Tomasetti said. “Our overall scores keep dropping.
