E-mail: morgan.kelley389@gmail.com i nitiation night for Jill Powell goldberg '70 was one to remember. In the spring of 1970, riots were taking place all throughout Ohio State's campus, protesting the war and discrimination among other issues. While on their way to becoming official members of Beta Nu, Jill and friends in her pledge class were tear-gassed. Despite this unpleasant encounter, she and her sisters went on to be initiated that same weekend. Luckily, as Jill went on to gain great friendships and connections as a Kappa, it became clear that her membership was worth the tears! She was an active student, the Panhellenic Delegate her freshman year, assistant treasurer as a sophomore, and part of a study abroad program in New York her junior year. Jill shared that along with leadership development, "the Kappa affiliation provided me instant friends around the world." These benefits led Jill in her career as a retail buyer and then in her role as the senior vice president of Carole Little Women's Wear from 1980 to 1997. Later, she immersed herself in the charitable side of Dallas, and she continues to work to better the lives of those in her community. The 1970 pledge class stays in touch, getting together when it is possible given their busy lives and schedules. Jill always prided Beta Nu as a group of "hugely bright, creative, and fun-loving women, all committed to lives of success." And 40 years after her own experience in the chapter, Jill notes that very little has changed about Ohio State Kappas. The house itself, however, is due for a transformation; one that Jill is very excited to witness.
