CHAMBER UPDATE CHAIR AIRSpeaks The events o S Th u Tht ff Saturday, A ly Neighbors Helping Neighbors April 16, 2011, have certain- l ly changed the lives of many people in our commu- ni n ty as a band of tornadoes hit our region destroying hundreds of homes and businesses in Cumberland County. Many state and local officials have placed our local damage estimates upwards of $100 million and many of our residents and business owners are starting the process of rebuilding their homes and businesses. st bu In ty In the days aſter the storms, true to our communi- ty’s character, we have all learned of business owners taking heroic efforts to protect their employees and customers when the storms hit on Saturday aſternoon. We have also read and heard of several news stories of neighbors helping neighbors in hours and days of the storm’s aſtermath. We at the chamber want to do our part in helping affected businesses regain their footing. One of the ways we can do this is to help communicate where affected businesses can get help. The Chambers web site (www.fayettevil- lencchamber.org) has been updated to include a disaster relief link where businesses can request information, relay relief efforts, and donations. Several local businesses have already donated space in storage facilities, damage assessment, and move in assistance to local rental facilities. Our staff is also equipped to field calls to other disaster relief organizations and offer small business counseling. Along with these services we would en- courage local businesses to make monetary donations to the American Red Cross Highlands Chapter and the local United Way of Cumberland County who always rise to the occasion during the community’s time of need. In closing, join me in thanking our emergency service personnel who have done heroic work over the last several days’ helping our community and will continue to stay on the job in leading our cleanup efforts.
